Big tech earnings season is in full swing: In the next few weeks and months, some of the biggest tech stocks in on the Nasdaq exchange — including FAANG stocks like Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon — will release earnings reports. These releases are major news for investors — both those who are hoping the stock will rise, and those who are hoping to profit from a downturn via short selling.

While you can find a full list on Nasdaq’s calendar, these are the market leaders day traders don’t want to miss.

Some traders use call options or put options to make big bets — either positive or negative — on a stock's performance after its quarterly earnings announcement. But this strategy isn't for everyone. (If you're new to options trading, check out our beginner's guide on how to trade options before you dive in.)

One note before we continue: We mention earnings per share, or EPS, in analysts’ expectations. This metric tells you how much money a company makes per share of its stock. In general, the higher the number, the more profitable the company. If the number is negative, it indicates the company is spending more than it’s earning (i.e., it’s not profitable).

Investing in these companies is one way to get exposure to tech stocks — but exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are another, and there are many tech ETFs available to fund-oriented investors.
