The Golden State is a gold mine for Rapid Rewards points this fall. Southwest is running a limited-time promotion that allows loyalty program members to earn double points on flights within California. You have to book and fly before Oct. 31, 2019, to qualify.
How to earn the bonus points
Register for the promotion here. You must register by Sept. 24, 2019 and before you book your intra-California flight. (Note: Southwest's terms state that this offer is only available to Rapid Rewards members who received a targeted offer, so check your promotional messages or log in to your Rapid Rewards account to see if you're eligible.)
Book and take your flight between two California cities before Oct. 31, 2019.
Receive bonus points within four days of completing your trip.
Where to fly
Southwest flies to 10 different airports in California, so you have a lot of options for intra-state travel. NorCal-based travelers can fly down south to catch sports that are in season, from L.A. Rams football to San Diego Padres baseball to Anaheim Ducks hockey in Orange County. SoCal dwellers might consider flying north to experience fall in some of the national parks or visit wine country during prime harvest season.

The fine print
Award tickets are not eligible for this promotion, and your earning power increases if you buy premium fares. Here’s the breakdown of how many points you will earn per dollar spent on your plane ticket:
Business Select Fares = 12 standard points + 12 bonus points.
Anytime fares = 10 standard points + 10 bonus points.
Wanna Get Away fares = 6 standard points + 6 bonus points.
Note that bonus points will not count toward earning A-List status, A-List Preferred status or the highly desired Companion Pass.
The bottom line
A short flight around California could get you double Southwest Rapid Rewards points, meaning you can speed toward earning your next award flight. This promotion is a rare opportunity to earn bonus points without signing up for a Southwest credit card. Check out our full list of airline promotions here.
