Holders of Chase credit and debit cards will soon get access to a new shopping platform that gives them automatic statement credit for purchases from select merchants.

"Chase Offers" will appear in Chase's mobile app starting the week of Nov. 19, 2018, according to the issuer. If your card is eligible for Chase Offers, you'll see the offers hub at the bottom of the page in the app. Here's how you use it:

  1. Browse the available offers in the Chase app. Chase says more than 150 merchants, including retailers and restaurants, will be participating. An offer might give you, say, 10% back on your total purchases from a specific merchant, or it might give you $50 back if you spend a certain amount.

  2. When you see an offer you like, tap it to add it to your card.

  3. Use your card at the merchant making the offer. You'll automatically receive statement credit for the amount of the offer. Chase says it should take seven to 14 business days for the credit to appear.

If you have multiple Chase cards, you may see different offers for each card. Purchases through Chase Offers will earn rewards just like any other purchase.

Cardholders will also receive targeted Chase Offers by email. And offers will be integrated into the issuer's digital wallet, Chase Pay, in December 2018, Chase says.

Chase Offers is similar to programs from other issuers such as American Express (Amex Offers) and Bank of America® (BankAmeriDeals). Over the past few years, several issuers shuttered their online shopping portals — or "bonus malls" — in favor of targeted offer platforms like these, although Chase's portal, Shop through Chase, remains active.

The key difference between bonus malls and offer programs: Bonus malls operate like, well, malls. Anyone who logs in can see all promotions from all merchants. Offer programs, on the other hand, are more like direct mail. The promotions you see can be targeted based on your spending habits or other factors.

Last month, Discover became the latest issuer to announce it was discontinuing its bonus mall; Discover said cardholders would receive "targeted promotions and offers from top merchants and retailers."
