Citi is kicking off the new year with the launch of the Citi Rewards+℠ Card, which will have a unique “round up” feature on rewards.

Beginning Jan. 10, you can apply for the $0-annual-fee credit card that will earn 2 ThankYou points per $1 spent at supermarkets and gas stations (on up to $6,000 in purchases per year) and 1 ThankYou point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Other features of the card include:

  • Introductory offers: The card offers the following sign-up bonus: Earn 15,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 in purchases with your card within 3 months of account opening; redeemable for $150 in gift cards at It also offers an intro 0% APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 13.49% - 23.49% Variable APR.
  • Rewards that round up: The Citi Rewards+℠ Card rounds up every purchase to the nearest 10 ThankYou Points. So if you spend, say, $4 on a coffee, you can earn 10 ThankYou points instead of four. If you spend $11 on lunch, you’ll earn 20 ThankYou points instead of 11.
  • Points returned to your wallet: On top of rounding up a few extra points, you can earn 10% of your points back for the first 100,000 ThankYou points redeemed per year.

Alone, the base rewards rate is small potatoes compared with rewards offered by other credit cards. But with the rare rounding feature combined with the 10% bonus, you can earn a bit more for your spending, especially if you redeem ThankYou points strategically to get the most value. ThankYou points can be worth between about 0.3 cents and 1 cent each, according to NerdWallet valuations, depending on how you redeem.

Cardholders will also get a suite of benefits that includes trip cancellation insurance, car rental insurance, travel accident insurance and extended warranty, among others.

The Citi Rewards+℠ Card is making its debut a few months after the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card stopped accepting applications.
