Keep in mind: The standard tip for a restaurant server is 15%-20%, based on the experience, according to Elaine Swann, lifestyle and etiquette expert and founder of the Swann School of Protocol. For most other service interactions, tips are a nice gesture to thank someone for going above and beyond, but not necessary, she says.
