What is American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts?

This program consists over 1,000 hotels and resorts that have partnered with American Express to incentivize members to book with their properties. In exchange, members get extra Membership Rewards Points and benefits.

Participating properties are located all over the world and they all can be conveniently booked through the American Express Travel portal.

You will need to hold an eligible American Express card: The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

Cardholders will earn 5x points per $1 on their AmEx Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings. This means that cardholders who are also frequent travelers can earn heaps of points by booking hotel stays through the AmEx Travel portal. Those points can also be redeemed through the AmEx Travel portal. Terms apply.

AmEx Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits

Not only will eligible cardholders earn bonus Membership Rewards points, but they will also be able to take advantage of exclusive benefits as well as special offers.

For example, cardholders are entitled to a free room upgrade upon arrival (if available) as well as daily breakfast for two, guaranteed 4 p.m. late check-out, noon check-in when available, complimentary WiFi and a special amenity that is specific to the property. These include spa discounts or dining credits, for example.

If you aren’t picky about where you would like to go and just want to get away, check out the featured special offers through the AmEx Travel portal. Usually, a selection of participating properties worldwide will offer a complimentary third, fourth, or fifth night. That’s ideal for getaways that are longer than a weekend.

In addition to those offers, a few properties even offer a property credit after staying a certain number of nights, ranging from $100 to $350. These credits can be used for on-site dining during your stay or towards booking a future stay with the same hotel. If you are looking for ideas for your next vacation, peruse that list first to narrow down your search and potentially find a great deal.

Booking AmEx Fine Hotels and Resorts

When you’re ready to book with Fine Hotels & Resorts, the process is nearly identical to any other booking process:

  1. Use the search bar within the American Express Travel portal to search for a specific property or general destination
  2. Enter your check-in and check-out dates
  3. Designate the number of rooms you need and the number of travelers checking in and hit the Search button.
  4. You should see Fine Hotels & Resorts properties appearing first in the search results. If you do not, simply check off “Fine Hotels & Resorts” filter on the left column.

Once you get to the property page, the user interface is clean and simple to understand. You’ll be able to see photos of the property, a list of benefits, amenities and any relevant special offers.

You’ll also be able to see a map of the property pulled from Google Maps, as well as a list of nearby attractions. This portal also includes TripAdvisor ratings and reviews of the property, so you can get an idea of how other travelers enjoyed their stay.
