Other Capital One business cards to consider

These business credit cards are not available through NerdWallet. Before applying, confirm details on Capital One’s website.
NerdWallet star rating: 3.3
The rewards rate on the Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business isn't going to wow anyone; there's no sign-up bonus and the APR is high. What makes this card valuable is that it's available to business operators with fair credit, who don't have a lot of options in business credit cards.
NerdWallet star rating: 4.4
The Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business offers a lower rewards rate and a smaller bonus offer than the regular Spark Miles card, but there's no annual fee, either. Smaller spenders might come out ahead compared with the regular version.

How to choose a Capital One business credit card

Ask these four questions to guide you to the right Capital One business card for your company.
What’s your credit score? You need excellent credit to qualify for most of Capital One’s cards. If you have fair credit, the Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business is your only option in this lineup — but it's a solid starting point for building business credit.
Do you need to carry a balance? The Capital One Venture X Business and Capital One Spark Cash Plus are charge cards, meaning your full balance is due every month. Avoid these if your business has irregular cash flow or seasonal spending patterns. The other Spark cards let you carry a balance month to month.
Do you want miles or cash back? Cash back is simpler — you earn a percentage back and redeem it as a statement credit or check. Miles take more effort but offer more upside. Each mile is worth 1 cent when you redeem them for travel (as a statement credit or via Capital One Business Travel). You can also transfer miles to more than 15 airline and hotel loyalty programs, where their value can go further.
Can you earn enough rewards to offset the annual fee? A no-annual-fee business card is the default for really low spending volume. But if you spend at least $10,000 annually, you can offset the fee for most Spark cards, and then some. The Spark Plus and Venture X Business offer extra perks to help offset their higher fees. The Venture X Business includes a $300 annual travel credit. And the Spark Cash Plus refunds its fee entirely if you spend $150,000 annually.

What’s new with Capital One business cards?

Acquisitions: Discover and Brex

Capital One made waves in 2025 by acquiring Discover Financial Services, including its card payment network. Capital One transitioned some consumer cards to that payment network in February 2026, according to reporting from The Street. The change only applies to newly issued cards.
CapOne business cards will remain on the Mastercard or Visa network — for now. That's good news for business owners. Capital One cash-back business cards stand out for not charging foreign transaction fees. Discover has grown its international footprint over time. But it still falls behind Mastercard and Visa in global acceptance.
The next piece in the puzzle: Capital One’s acquisition of Brex, a fintech built to give startups access to corporate cards when traditional banks wouldn’t. Brex grew into a software platform that manages company spending: corporate cards, banking, expenses, and approvals. Announced in January 2026, the deal is expected to close later this year.

Venture X Business: Lounge access policy

Effective Feb. 1, 2026, Venture X Business cardholders no longer get free lounge access for guests at Capital One Lounges and Landings. You can still spend your way to the benefit, though:
  • Spend at least $75,000 annually to earn complimentary guest access to Capital One lounges.
  • Purchase lounge access for up to four authorized users ($125 per year, per user). This includes Priority Pass memberships with guest access. Previously, authorized users did not get complimentary lounge access.

What does no preset spending limit really mean?

No preset spending limit means your limit is flexible, rather than fixed. And your purchasing power largely depends on payment history, spending patterns and credit history. It’s not the same thing as unlimited spending.
No preset limit can be empowering and frustrating. Charges being denied, even when they’ve been approved in the past, is a chief complaint of Spark Cash Plus cardholders on Reddit.
Before making a large purchase, use Capital One’s “Confirm Purchasing Power” tool online or by phone. It gives you a specific dollar amount Capital One will approve at that moment — far better than having a $15,000 vendor payment declined.

Do Capital One business cards affect your personal credit?

Capital One reports all business card activity to both personal and business credit bureaus. A high balance can hurt your credit score, even if you pay the card off each month. Most other business credit cards only impact your personal credit if you don't pay your bill. There are two exceptions for Capital One: the Spark Cash Plus and Venture X Business. These business charge cards will only appear on your personal credit report if you don’t pay your bill.

Alternatives to Capital One business credit cards

Capital One’s no-fuss approach can make its business credit cards a good fit for lots of entrepreneurs — even those without excellent credit. But if you don’t mind a higher-maintenance card or are seeking specific perks, the following alternatives are solid choices too.

Ink Business Cash® Credit Card

Better for: Cash back on bonus categories
The Capital One Spark Cash Plus credit card offers a strong 2%-5% cash back on all purchases. (See .) The $0-annual-fee Capital One Spark Cash Select matches the industry standard of 1.5%-5%. (See .) But if common expenses like office supplies and telecommunication tools make up most of your spending, consider the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card instead. It comes with 1%-5% cash back, a welcome bonus and a perk those Capital One business credit cards lack: 0% intro APR on Purchases for 12 months, and then the ongoing APR of 16.74%-24.74% Variable APR.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

Best for: Luxury travel rewards card that allows a balance
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express isn’t cheap: Its $895 annual fee far exceeds that of the Capital One Venture X Business card ($395). (See .) At first glance, the benefits are similar — high rewards rates on hotels and rental cars booked through the issuers’ websites and access to a nationwide network of airport lounges, for instance. But the AmEx card allows you to carry a balance, while the Capital One Venture X Business does not. That alone may not be worth an extra few hundred dollars in annual fees. However, if you want to pay off a balance over time and you’ll take advantage of credits that AmEx offers that Capital One doesn’t (such as on purchases with Dell, Indeed and Adobe), The Business Platinum Card® from American Express might make sense for you. Frequently Asked Questions

Capital One doesn't offer a secured business credit card. If your personal credit history is thin, consider the Capital One Spark Classic for Business, which is available to business owners with fair or average credit (typically a FICO score between 630 and 689).
Business credit cards do not help your personal credit score, though. Consider a secured personal card if your goal is to build your personal credit to qualify for a better business credit card down the road. Just remember: It's best to keep business and personal expenses on separate cards, so avoid mixing the two.
Like most small-business credit cards, Capital One requires a personal guarantee: If your business is unable to repay for purchases, you’ll be personally liable for those charges.
Capital One doesn't publish the maximum limit on its business credit cards. But our editorial team has seen the following minimum credit limits:
  • Capital One Spark Cash: $5,000.
  • Capital One Spark Miles for Business: $5,000.
  • Capital One Spark Cash Select: $2,000.
  • Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business: $2,000.
  • Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business: $300.
The Capital One Spark Cash Plus and Capital One Venture X Business are charge cards so there is no preset spending limit, but any balance charged must be paid in full each month.

Methodology

NerdWallet's writers and editors monitor more than 70 business credit cards to select the best options without outside input from partners or other business interests. We evaluate business cards based on value and simplicity, weighing fees, sign-up bonuses and reward rates, alongside perks like interest-free periods, statement credits and elite status (for travel cards).
We consider more than 20 data points for each card we score, including detailed information about rewards, credits and fees. We gather this information from rates and fees documents, deposit account agreements, financial institution websites and company representatives.
Our editorial team regularly reviews and updates our data to ensure consistency and accuracy. We also update our scoring on an ongoing basis to reflect changing industry norms and business owner needs. For instance, in 2026, we added a small deduction for cards that don’t allow users to issue virtual cards and removed the small increase for cards with no preset spending limit.
Final star ratings range from one to five stars. A five-star score represents the best available product for the largest number of business owners. Learn how NerdWallet rates small-business credit cards.
