Verdict - This card may be the best choice for people who fly a lot. Earn up to 100,000 bonus points each year by purchasing airline tickets on the PremierPass and flying 100,000 miles.
The PremierPass Elite Level is a Tier 1 rewards card due to its unique feature - you get a bonus point for each mile flown on a a ticket purchased with this card, limited to 100,000 bonus points per year. On top of that, you get 2% back on gas, groceries, drugstores, and commuter parking. However, note that there is a $75 annual fee associated with this card.
Admittedly, NerdWallet's ranking system does not do the Citibank PermierPass justice, because it's very hard to judge how many miles you will fly each year. But if you make international trips regularly, this card could earn you an extra $1,000 in bonus points each year. Consider a roundtrip domestic flight from coast to coast costs about $400, and if you purchased it with Premier Pass, you would accumulate about 5,500 bonus points, or $55. This means you are saving big bucks with every trip, especially on international flights. You will quickly earn back your $75 annual fee from just 1-2 flights a year.
One more thing, you should consider getting a different card for gas, groceries, and drugstores - American Express Blue Cash will pay you up to 5% cash back on these categories, so the 2 cards could be a good duo.
