Cons

Verdict - The Open Road is one of the best gas credit cards available to students. However, if you can qualify (and not many can) you should also consider the PenFed Platinum Cashback for Students which offers 5% back on gas.

The Discover Student Open Road earns 2% on the first $250 in spending at gas and restaurants each month. However, you only earn 0.25% for the first $3,000 in other purchases each year, and 1% thereafter. This 0.25% reward rate instead of 1.00% (buried in the fine print) ends up costing you $22.50 each year.
