Managing Editor Travelers will soon have more ways to earn points and set sail with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea.
Bank of America® and Royal Caribbean plan to launch the Royal ONE and Royal ONE Plus credit cards, which will earn rewards in a variety of categories from travel to everyday purchases. The cards will officially debut in the next few weeks, but no official date has been announced.
Here’s what the cards will offer.
The ONE cards unpacked
Cardholders will be able to choose between an annual fee and no-annual-fee option. As is typical, the one with the annual fee will offer more perks. Both cards will allow cardholders to earn and redeem points across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea. They'll also both have welcome offers for new cardholders, which will be announced when the cards officially launch. The cards also won’t charge foreign transaction fees, so that's one less expense you’ll have to cover abroad.
Royal ONE Credit Card (No annual fee)
- 3X points on purchases with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea.
- 2X points on grocery, gas, and EV charging.
- 1X point on all other purchases.
- Travel perks: Priority boarding for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises; a $100 anniversary reward after meeting a $10,000 spending requirement; and Visa Signature travel protections.
Royal ONE Plus Credit Card ($99 annual fee)
- 4X points on purchases with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea.
- 2X points on grocery, gas, EV charging, plus air, hotel, and dining.
- 1X point on all other purchases.
- Travel perks: Priority suite boarding for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea vacations; priority luggage handling with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises; a $200 anniversary reward after meeting a $20,000 spending requirement; a $120 TSA PreCheck/Global Entry credit (every four years); and Visa Signature travel protections.
It's unclear how much points will be worth, but you'll be able to redeem them toward cruise savings and onboard experiences like specialty dining, shore excursions, WiFi and more.
How it compares with the previous card
The Royal ONE card is replacing a previous version from Bank of America®, called the Royal Caribbean Visa Signature card. If you have that previous version, you'll receive a new version in the coming months.
The main difference between the latest cards and the old one is the rewards structure. Previously, cardholders could earn only 2 points per dollar on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises and 1 point per dollar everywhere else.
The name of Royal Caribbean's rewards program will also be changing to Royal ONE, which offers rewards across the company's brands.
