Overall institution rating

4.4

NerdWallet rating
The bottom line:

EverBank gives savers some nice options for online accounts nationwide. Its CD rates are competitive, as is its high-yield savings account. For customers who want in-person support, the bank has some branches, but they’re restricted to California and Florida, with one branch in New York. Note that EverBank Performance® Savings, which has a strong rate, is only available online and via phone.

Best for: Those who want solid CD rates and free access to a large ATM network and are unlikely to need in-person services.

Pros
  • No overdraft fees.

  • No monthly fees.

  • Competitive rate on savings and some certificates of deposit.

  • Large, free, nationwide ATM network.

  • ATM fee rebates.

Cons
  • Limited branch access.

Strong APY. The EverBank Performance® Savings account offers a competitive 3.90% annual percentage yield on all balances. This rate is higher than you’ll find at some big banks, and on par with some of the best rates from other online banks.

No minimums or monthly fee. There is no minimum deposit needed to open an account, and there is no monthly fee.

No monthly fee, but there’s a minimum to open. You need $100 to open an EverBank Performance® Checking account, which is fairly high compared to other online banks’ checking accounts.

Notable checking rate. You’ll earn 0.25% APY on your balance, which is decent considering that most checking accounts don’t earn interest.

Big ATM network and fee refunds. EverBank offers more than 80,000 fee-free ATMs, and if your balance is less than $5,000, the bank will reimburse up to $15 in non-network ATM fees. If your daily average balance is more than that, reimbursements are unlimited.

Fast transfers, many deposit options. EverBank belongs to the Zelle network which offers free same-day transfers between banks. (See more banks that use Zelle.) You can deposit money through cash deposits at a branch or ATM, direct deposit, online transfers, wire transfers, mobile check deposits or by sending a check through the mail.

Methodology

NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, banking experience and overdraft fees. Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation. The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). The ratings are incremented in tenths of a star.
