NerdWallet Review: The United Mileage Plus® Select® Visa Card
Annual fee: The United Mileage Plus® Select® Visa Card does come with an annual fee. An annual fee isn't necessarily a bad thing. Those who put a lot of money on their cards will often benefit from higher rewards rates or more extensive perks. Credit cards for bad credit will often carry annual fees as well, and are pretty much a necessary evil if you're looking to build credit.
Credit Card Showdown: United Mileage Plus® Select® Visa Card vs. Capital One® Venture℠ Rewards Credit Card
Same late payment fee: The United Mileage Plus® Select® Visa Card has a late fee that's the same as the one on the Capital One® Venture℠ Rewards Credit Card. Ideally, you shouldn't have late payment fees anyway. Besides having to pay a one-time charge, but you may incur a hefty penalty APR that lasts for at least six months.
Bigger signup bonus: The United Mileage Plus® Select® Visa Card has a bigger signup bonus than the Capital One® Venture℠ Rewards Credit Card. While there are of course other factors to look at, there's nothing wrong with getting psyched about a big signup bonus.
Lower base rewards rate: The card has a lower base rewards rate than the Capital One® Venture℠ Rewards Credit Card. If you can't find a card that neatly fits your spending profile (let's say, one that gives rewards on the shopping you do way too much of), a high base rate is key. Base rewards aren't everything, though, since many cards with bonus categories don't give great rates on other purchases.
