Verdict – It’s great that Citizens offers 3% back on gas, but there are better deals out there to consider.

Rewards cards have come a long way – this would have been a great rewards card a few years ago, with 3% back on gas, 1% back on everything else, and no annual fee. But now it ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of our gas credit cards comparison page.

There are two main issues driving these mediocre rankings. First, the card doesn’t have bonus categories outside of gasoline, like the American Express Blue Cash and Costco American Express credit card.

Second, if you pump gas at Costco because of their reasonable prices, you earn 3% back with the Costco American Express. However, they only accept American Express, which excludes the Citizens Bank Accelerator Rewards Platinum from consideration.
