Some of the terms of the United℠ Explorer Card have changed, and this article is out of date. See our review of the United℠ Explorer Card for up-to-date details.

The United℠ Explorer Card, one of the airline's co-branded travel cards with Chase, is elevating its sign-up bonus to a higher altitude — although cardholders must spend more than previously required before they can earn the new welcome offer.

  • New bonus: 60,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open. Plus, an additional 10,000 bonus miles after you spend $6,000 in the first 6 months.

  • Previous bonus: 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open.

United miles are worth 1.2 cents each, based on NerdWallet valuations.

The card will continue to earn the same ongoing rewards:

  • 2 miles per $1 spent on purchases from United.

  • 2 miles per $1 spent on restaurant purchases and hotel accommodations purchased directly with the hotel.

  • 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases.

The card’s annual fee — $0 intro for the first year, then $95 — will also remain the same.
