How to Add Money-Saving Travel Offers to Your AmEx Card

If you have an American Express credit card, a chance to earn cash back or bonus points on upcoming travel — or lots of other things — could be right under your nose.

These AmEx offers are good on purchases at specific travel providers or retailers, usually with a pre-set spending minimum and an expiration date.

The offers

To find your eligible offers, log in to your American Express account, scroll down to Offers, then click on the hyperlinked text “AmEx Offers and Benefits.” That will get you a pull-down menu of spending categories that include travel, shopping and dining, offering deals like $150 back on $750 spent on shoes with Jimmy Choo and $30 back on a purchase of $150 or more at LensCrafters. In terms of travel deals, if you have the Hilton Honors American Express Card, travel offers might include $45 back on a purchase of $225 or more at Doubletree by Hilton, $40 off when you spend at least $175 at a Hilton Garden Inn or a Hampton Inn, or $70 back on $350 spent at a Waldorf or Conrad resort. Terms apply.

Each of these offers has a separate “add to card” button, meaning that if your travel or spending plans aren’t set, you might want to add them all. There’s no cost, and you’re not obligated to book.

If your AmEx card isn’t co-branded with a hotel or airline but instead offers American Express Membership Rewards points, you may see offers for bonus Membership Rewards points on qualifying purchases with specific sellers.

The travel offers often require booking within weeks or days, so the trick to maximizing these is to get in the habit of skimming them every time you’re planning a trip. It takes less than a minute.
