If you're ready to book a flight but don't want to leave your furry friend at home, you're likely wondering: "Does JetBlue allow pets?" In short, yes: The JetBlue pet policy allows you to bring eligible pets.

While many airlines allow travelers to bring pets on board, airline fees and restrictions vary. Let's look at the JetBlue pet policy, the in-cabin pet options and how flying pets with JetBlue compares with other airlines.

JetBlue pet policy

You must follow the airline's policies to bring your pet on a flight. These rules ensure a positive experience for you, your pet, fellow passengers and airline staff.

  • A maximum of six pets are permitted per JetBlue flight for all passengers, so booking your pet's ticket as soon as possible is best.

  • You may only bring small dogs or cats on JetBlue flights — no other types of animals are allowed.

  • The airline charges $125 per pet each way, which is $250 for a round-trip flight. These fees are nonrefundable; however, they become flight credits good for one year if you cancel your flight.

  • JetBlue TrueBlue loyalty program members earn 300 extra points per flight segment when adding a pet to their booking.

  • Each passenger may bring up to two pets on flights. However, if you bring a second pet, you must purchase an additional ticket. You'll also need to pay a pet fee for each pet.

  • The closed pet carrier cannot exceed specific dimensions and must fit under the seat in front of you. 

  • The combined weight of your pet and its carrier may not exceed 20 pounds.

  • Pet carriers count as your carry-on item. However, as Blue Basic fares do not include a carry-on bag, those passengers may bring a pet and a small personal item.

  • While JetBlue flies to more than 100 destinations, pets are not permitted on flights to Trinidad and Tobago, the U.K. or Europe.

  • Vaccination and documentation requirements vary by state and country. Passengers are required to follow all applicable laws and have necessary documents in hand before traveling with their pets.

JetBlue in-cabin pet options

JetBlue pet policies aim to ensure a good flight for everyone onboard. The airline refers to this as "Travel Petiquette."

Your pet must remain inside its carrier at the airport and during your flight. During takeoff and landing, the pet carrier must remain under the seat in front of you.

For the remainder of the flight, you may hold the carrier in your lap or place it on the seat beside you if you've purchased an extra seat.

If you have a layover and your pet needs to go to the bathroom, some airports have designated pet relief areas where you can let your pet out. Otherwise, you'll need to exit the airport and return through security.

Pets are not allowed in Mint, which is JetBlue's premium cabin experience.

Additionally, passengers cannot bring pets on interline or codeshare bookings with other airlines. However, there is an exception for some American Airlines-operated flights within the U.S.
