There are a host of good reasons to get the Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® regardless of which destinations are on your post-COVID-19 bucket list. The welcome offer and earning potential of this card, which is issued by Bank of America®, are reason enough, but there’s more.
The well-known reasons
Welcome bonus: For a limited time: 60,000 bonus Virgin Points after spending $2,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. Some travel rewards cards require you to spend $3,000 or more after opening a card to earn the welcome offer, so the lower spend on the Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® is easier to achieve if your spending is currently limited.
Earning power: This co-branded airline card earns 3 points per dollar on Virgin Atlantic airfare and onboard purchases, and 1.5 points per dollar on everything else. Those points are valuable considering you can get a one-way flight from the East Coast to London starting at 10,000 points.

The underrated reasons
There are quite a few other reasons to get this card that many travelers may not be aware of, including:
You get up to 5,000 points when you add additional cardholders to your account, and you can earn up to 15,000 points on your anniversary with qualifying purchases. The airline also has a shopping portal that gives bonus points for online purchases made through it; available stores include Apple and Macy's.
If you're currently working to maintain elite status in Virgin America's Flying Club — or you're interested in obtaining elite status — this card can help. You can earn up to 25 tier points per $2,500 in purchases, up to two times monthly.
Companion reward flight
If you spend $25,000 in a year, you'll receive your choice of perks. You can opt for a companion ticket in the same cabin or redeem your points for an upgrade on a reward ticket on Virgin Atlantic. Balance transfers, cash withdrawals and check payments do not count.
No foreign transaction fees
Holding this card helps you avoid fees that can cost you up to 3% of the transaction price when you use it for purchases overseas. Eligible purchases include hotel stays, meals and other goods and services.
Travel assistance and insurance
You'll automatically have access to travel accident insurance of up to $500,000 when you pay for your airfare with the Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard®. You also get round-the-clock assistance when it comes to medical, legal and personal issues.
Roadside assistance and concierge
The card offers access to emergency roadside help 24 hours a day. Plus, cardholders also get concierge service and special offers that provide VIP access and discounts to hotels, entertainment and restaurants.
Shopping benefits: The Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® provides you with a complimentary ShopRunner membership, which offers free two-day shipping at over 140 stores. You also get up to $1,000 in purchase protection if any item you buy with the card is damaged or stolen within 90 days of purchasing it. Lastly, this card provides access to an extended warranty when you use the card to make the purchase; it doubles a manufacturer’s warranty of up to a year.
Security features: The Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® has chip technology for extra security and also offers a $0 liability guarantee for fraudulent activities. If your identity is stolen or your credit card is used fraudulently, you have access to fraud resolution specialists.
