Other top business gas credit cards

These gas and fleet cards aren't available through NerdWallet. Our editorial team still recommends them.
NerdWallet star rating: 4.2
The Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi turns everyday spending into rewards you can redeem at Costco (although rewards only arrive once a year). You earn bonus rewards on gas, at restaurants, on travel and at Costco itself. There's no annual fee for the card, but you have to be a Costco member (which does require a fee).
This card has not been rated by NerdWallet .
The Shell Small Business Card offers a volume-based discount of up to 6 cents per gallon, but you need to purchase more than 10,000 gallons to get the best rebate. There is no per-card fee and you can carry a balance — other fleet cards from Shell are charge cards that do not allow a revolving balance. Use is limited to Shell stations (nearly 13,000 locations) and participating Jiffy Lube stations.
This card has not been rated by NerdWallet .
The WEX Fleet FlexCard offers a promotional rebate of 3 cents per gallon for the first 180 days. After that, your discount is volume based. Cards can be used at gas stations in the WEX network (45,000+ locations). There is a monthly fee of $4 per card and additional charges if you use your card at a truck stop.

How we choose the best business credit cards for gas

NerdWallet's writers and editors monitor close to 70 business credit cards. Our goal is to pick the most rewarding ones among them for gas station and EV charging purchases. Here's how we do this:
  • Start with the obvious. Some cards specifically reward fuel purchases with bonus cash back or points. Fleet cards often include per-gallon rebates. We find all these cards in our dataset.
  • Look for elevated rewards elsewhere. Bonus categories often cap their higher rates to a certain amount of spending. That means a lower rate, but one with no earning limit, may better fit big spenders. We identify cards where that math might work. Typically, that meant earning at least unlimited 2%/2X back.
  • Check our overall ratings. If you want a business gas credit card, odds are it's for buying gas. But even if you'll get good rewards on those purchases, we want to make sure cards are good for you — period. Our star ratings help determine that. These weigh not only reward rates, but also factors like fees and APRs.
Our ratings rubric evaluates business credit cards. We don't score fleet cards because they are a different product class. But we look at similar features (costs, rewards, etc.) to compare options.
Business cards that earn 5 stars are considered exceptional. These cards are best-in-class and deliver the most value for the greatest number of business owners.
Business cards that earn 4.0 to 4.9 stars are good to excellent. They deliver excellent value and might be the best choice for certain businesses, depending on your needs and spending habits.
Business cards that earn 3.0 to 3.9 stars are fine business cards. You'll get some value out of using them, to be sure, but there are other cards that offer better rewards.
Business cards that earn below 3 stars are considered subpar and would generally not be recommended by NerdWallet.

What is a business gas credit card?

A business gas credit card offers greater rewards for fuel purchases. These cards typically fall into two buckets: small-business cards and fleet cards.
Small-business cards work like other credit cards. You can spend up to a certain limit, and buy things besides gas. You'll likely earn cash back or points on your spending. These cards can be a good choice if gas is a common expense for your business. Consider one if you have a couple vehicles and a few employees who often travel for work by car.
Fleet cards are better for bigger operations — think five or more vehicles. (Though that's not a hard-and-fast total.) These cards may offer rebates on fuel purchases. But their main value is expense management. Fleet operators can closely monitor and even limit driver spending. For instance, a fleet card may let drivers only get fuel and only at certain stations.

What types of rewards do business gas cards offer?

Business gas cards may earn cash-back, points or per-gallon rebates. The right choice will depend on your preferences.
  • Cash back is easiest. You'll earn a set percentage back on each eligible purchase. For instance, if you spend $50 on gas on a 3% cash-back business card, you'll get $1.50.
  • But points can be more valuable. Business travel credit cards offer big multiples on gas (potentially as much as 4X or 5X points per dollar), The catch? These cards often have high annual fees. Plus, points are most valuable if you redeem them for travel or with certain brands.
  • Per-gallon rebates are less common. You won't find these on traditional business credit cards. Instead, you'll need a fuel card or a co-branded business gas card from a company like Shell or Exxon/Mobil. You can use these "closed-loop" cards solely with that specific vendor.

Do all fueling purchases earn your business rewards?

Not necessarily. It's important to pay attention to a business card's fine print to ensure you maximize rewards.
For instance, gas and EV charging both often count as "gas," but not always. For Chase cards, like the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, the issuer specifies that "merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included" in their "gas station" bonus category.
There may be other limitations. The U.S. Bank Business Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card doesn't offer its 4X rate if you fill up at a discount store, supercenter or wholesale club, for example. Ditto the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa Business Card. That card also limits its 3% cash-back rate to fuel transactions of $200 or fewer.

How to get a business gas card

You can apply for many business gas cards online. Applications will ask for business details like your annual revenue, years in operation and number of employees. But approval will largely depend on your personal credit.
As with most small-business credit cards, you'll need at least good personal credit to qualify. That's typically a FICO score above 690. Expect to provide a Social Security number so the issuer can check your credit. These cards will require a personal guarantee as well.
If you want an EIN-only business card with no personal guarantee, a fleet card is a better fit. These cards may still look at your personal credit. But it will likely be a "soft pull," which doesn't impact your credit score. Their applications may ask for specific details about your fleet, like the number of vehicles and your average monthly fuel spend.

Are business gas cards worth it?

Business gas cards can deliver a ton of value to everyone from rideshare and delivery drivers to companies with a fleet of vehicles. The best gas cards for business earn 3% back (or up to 4X points if you prefer travel rewards), which can translate to thousands of dollars in savings each year.
Companies with a fleet of five or more vehicles may prefer a fleet card. Most fleet cards offer volume-based discounts — anywhere from 2 to 8 cents per gallon — but you need to purchase 10,000 gallons of fuel per month (or more) to earn the top rebate rate.
Fleet cards have other business-friendly benefits, though, including detailed reporting and strict spending controls. Most fleet cards don't require a personal credit check (you can apply with an EIN), so it may be easier to get a fleet card than a traditional business card with gas rewards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Business gas cards offer higher rewards for gas, diesel and EV charging. Some gas cards offer cash back that can be redeemed for a statement credit, while others give you points you can later use for travel. You typically need to buy at least 10,000 gallons per month to hit the top rebate tier.

Methodology

NerdWallet's business credit card team selects the best small-business credit cards without outside input from partners or other business interests. We evaluate business cards based on value and simplicity, weighing fees, sign-up bonuses and reward rates, alongside perks like interest-free periods, statement credits and elite status (for travel cards). Business cards that earn the highest scores deliver the most value to the greatest number of business owners.
Notable changes to our methodology for 2025 include factoring in whether spending on employee cards earns rewards and counts toward the welcome offer requirements. We also now consider what information the card issuer reports to consumer credit bureaus. Learn how NerdWallet rates small-business credit cards.
