Other picks: Visa business credit cards

The following business credit cards are not available through NerdWallet. Before applying, confirm details on the issuer's website.

Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi

Best for: Costco shoppers
NerdWallet rating: 4.2
Costco warehouse locations and gas stations are the rare merchants that only accept Visa, not Mastercard, Discover or AmEx. This card not only supports those purchases, but also earns rewards — 4% on eligible gas and EV charging, 3% on restaurants and eligible travel (including Costco Travel), 2% cash back on purchases from Costco and Costco.com and 1% on everything else. You’ll need a Costco membership to apply, but the card doesn’t charge an additional annual fee. Learn more about Costco business credit cards.

Valley Visa® Secured Business Credit Card

Best for: Secured business credit card
This card is not rated by NerdWallet.
Secured business credit cards are rare, but they can be a valuable tool for business owners with FICO scores below the good or excellent range (below 690). You can qualify for the Valley Visa® Secured Business Credit Card even if you have limited credit history by putting down a security deposit equal to 110% of your credit line. Using your card and making on-time payments can help build your credit so that you can qualify for other products down the line.

PNC Visa Business Credit Card

Best for: Balance transfers
This card is not rated by NerdWallet.
The PNC Visa Business Credit Card is one of relatively few balance transfer business credit cards. If you transfer balances to this card within 90 days of opening it, you’ll pay 0% APR on those balances for 13 billing cycles. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer any ongoing rewards, like cash back or points.

What is a Visa business credit card?

Visa is a payment network that processes credit card transactions. It does not issue small-business credit cards itself. Instead, Visa business credit cards come from third parties — like Chase, Capital One, hotel chains or airlines — and operate on Visa's payment network.

What are Visa business credit card benefits?

Credit card issuers can choose to include certain Visa-backed benefits with their products. The perks you might receive depend on which of three tiers your Visa card falls within.
On all its business credit cards, Visa offers a zero liability policy, which means you’re not responsible for unauthorized transactions using your cards. (This is common across most business credit cards.) Your card issuer can also choose to include Visa-powered discounts on spending with brands like Microsoft, Mailchimp and FreshBooks.
Additional features vary by tier:
  • Visa Business Credit Card: This is the first of Visa’s three credit card tiers. It includes the benefits listed above, plus a roadside assistance phone line, some auto insurance coverage on rental cars and warranties on some items purchased with the card.
  • Visa Signature Business Credit Card: Visa Signature perks include the above, plus roadside assistance, a lost luggage reimbursement and other travel perks.
  • Visa Infinite Business: This is Visa’s premium offering, typically with the highest credit limits. On top of the above benefits, these cards may offer airport lounge access, a credit for TSA Global Entry or Pre-Check and trip cancellation benefits.
Ultimately, card benefits like reward rates and sign-up bonuses are determined by the issuer. They may or may not include Visa’s perks on top of their own. If they don’t, in some cases it may be because your card offers its own variation of that feature. You can look at your cardholder agreement to find out which type of Visa business card you have and if Visa-specific benefits are included.

Should you get a Visa business credit card?

Every credit card is affiliated with a payment network. Visa is among the most widely accepted around the U.S., along with Mastercard. It likely won’t make a difference which of these two networks your card relies on; you should be able to use Visa and Mastercard business credit cards virtually everywhere you need to (with Costco being the notable exception).
The other two payment networks are American Express and Discover. American Express offers credit cards directly to business owners instead of working with a card issuer as an intermediary, but there are no Discover business credit cards right now. Historically, these brands have been less widely accepted than Visa and Mastercard — especially abroad — but both are getting more and more popular.
Business Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards will all probably be accepted nearly everywhere your business makes purchases. It’s best to choose the business credit card that offers the most competitive rewards program and the lowest fees for your business, regardless of what payment network it relies on.

Does Visa offer business debit cards?

Visa also supports some prepaid business debit cards. You can issue these cards to issue fixed amounts of cash to your employees — for instance, if you need to give someone a per diem while on a business trip — or to empower them to make transactions on your behalf. Bento for Business and U.S. Bank both offer prepaid card programs that run on the Visa card network.
