ATM fees are often the subject of feedback we receive here at NerdWallet. Readers have brought us many tales of excess charges brought on by using ATMs not owned by their bank. It’s a sad but true fact that out-of-network fees can quickly pile up if you don’t have easy access to your bank’s ATMs. If you’re not careful, you could end up losing a substantial amount of cash each time you visit a foreign ATM (sometimes as much as $10 per transaction). If you’re having trouble getting access to your bank’s ATMs when you need cash most, it might be time for a change.
