Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), which has served more than 45,900,000 passengers so far this year, is giving travelers something to be excited about for 2019.

American Express is awaiting approval from city officials in Charlotte to build a new Centurion Lounge inside the airport. The lounges, though few and far between, are one of the best perks of being a cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express.

New and exclusive digs

If the lease is approved, the CLT Centurion Lounge is expected to be completed by next fall. The 13,295-square-foot space will be located on the third floor between Concourse D and E. The lease is for 10 years.

There are only nine Centurion Lounges — located in Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, LaGuardia Airport-New York and Hong Kong — across the globe. There are three currently under construction in Los Angeles, Denver and at John F. Kennedy International Airport-New York.

Getting in

Centurion Lounges are available to cardholders of The Platinum Card® from American Express. The card grants the member and up to two guests complimentary access to all the fantastic amenities of the lounge. If three or more guests are traveling with the cardholders, day passes can be purchased for $50.

Notable perks

The AmEx Centurion Lounge has benefits that make it a stand out among other airport lounges.

The lounge has AmEx Member Services Professionals, who can help guests with everything from flight changes to restaurant reservations. Centurion Lounges also feature fresh food, premium alcohol, spa services, conference rooms, shower suites, semi-private workspaces, family rooms and more.
