We believe everyone should be able to make financial decisions with
confidence. While we don't cover every company or financial product on
the market, we work hard to share a wide range of offers and objective
editorial perspectives.
So how do we make money? Our partners compensate us for advertisements that
appear on our site. This compensation helps us provide tools and services -
like free credit score access and monitoring. With the exception of
mortgage, home equity and other home-lending products or services, partner
compensation is one of several factors that may affect which products we
highlight and where they appear on our site. Other factors include your
credit profile, product availability and proprietary website methodologies.
However, these factors do not influence our editors' opinions or ratings, which are based on independent research and analysis. Our partners cannot
pay us to guarantee favorable reviews. Here is a list of our partners.
How to Get into an AmEx Centurion Lounge Before Your Flight
Six different AmEx cards will get you Centurion Lounge access, but access details vary.
After spending seven years in the U.S. Air Force as an Arabic linguist, Carissa is now a freelance writer using points and miles to fund a four-year (and counting!) adventure. She previously worked as a reporter for The Points Guy. Her writing has since been featured in numerous publications, including Forbes, Business Insider, and The Balance. When she's not flying, you'll usually find her in a Priority Pass lounge somewhere, sipping tea and cursing slow Wi-Fi.
Sally French is co-host of the Smart Travel podcast and a writer on NerdWallet's travel team. Before joining NerdWallet as a travel rewards expert in 2020, she wrote about travel and credit cards for The New York Times and its sibling site, Wirecutter.
Outside of work, she loves fitness, and she competes in both powerlifting and weightlifting (she can deadlift more than triple bodyweight). Naturally, her travels always involve a fitness component, including a week of cycling up the coastline of Vietnam and a camping trip to the Arctic Circle, where she biked over the sea ice. Other adventures have included hiking 25 miles in one day through Italy's Cinque Terre and climbing the 1,260 steps to Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, Thailand.
Chris Burkhardt is a former freelance editor for NerdWallet, helping with travel and credit card related content. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Chris has been a writer, editor, videographer and more in his 10 years as a journalist. Prior to joining the NerdWallet team in 2021, Chris was a digital media producer for NBC Sports — where his numerous trips around the country covering major sporting events helped his understanding of the travel world.
When not editing articles for NerdWallet, Chris can be heard hosting sports talk radio on iHeart Radio’s Rip City Radio 620 or running the digital content for the Oregon School Activities Association.
Chris is based in Portland, Oregon.

What if your credit card could unlock a private airport oasis with craft cocktails, chef-prepared meals and a place to truly relax before your flight?
If you carry the right American Express card, that’s not a fantasy — it’s your pre-boarding reality. Centurion Lounges are some of the most luxurious spaces in U.S. airports, and they’re available only to select AmEx cardholders. From the delightfully British tea cart at the London (LHR) Centurion Lounge to a Napa-inspired, wine-tasting area at the San Francisco (SFO) Centurion Lounge, these lounges are a serious upgrade from waiting at the gate. Here's exactly how to get in.

How to get into an AmEx Centurion Lounge
To enter a Centurion Lounge, you must hold one of the eligible American Express cards listed below. Once at the airport, you can check in at the lounge by either:
Showing your eligible AmEx card, government-issued ID and same-day boarding pass.
Using the AmEx app to check in and generate a QR code for contactless entry — a good option if you don't carry your physical card with you. You'll still need to show government-issued ID and a same-day boarding pass.
🤓Nerdy Tip
During peak hours, some lounges may start a waitlist. Use the AmEx app to join the list and get a notification when it’s your turn.

Access: Complimentary unlimited access to those who hold the American Express Platinum Card®, granted they have a same-day boarding pass and are arriving within three hours of their departing flight.
Up to two guests may accompany the cardholder at no additional cost if the cardholder has spent $75,000 in the prior calendar year. Otherwise, guests are $50 each.
Access: Complimentary access if you're flying a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight paid for on your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card. You're also only allowed access at specific locations, including domestic lounges, Hong Kong and London. Terms apply.
This invitation-only card is so elite, that there are few public details. Among its many perks are that up to two guests can enter at no additional cost — and with no additional spending threshold required. Terms apply.
American Express Corporate Platinum Card
Like The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, the American Express Corporate Platinum Card offers business-focused benefits. Cardmembers are allowed unrestricted access to the Centurion Lounge with up to two guests. Terms apply.
Can you access a Centurion Lounge without an eligible AmEx card?
No — unless you're a guest of someone who holds an eligible card. Even then, complimentary guest access depends on whether the cardholder met that minimum $75,000 spending threshold. Otherwise, guests pay:
$50 per adult.
$30 per child aged 2 to 17. Terms apply.
And again, not all American Express cards will get you into a Centurion Lounge. Only those named above offer access.
American Express was the first major credit card issuer to launch its own branded lounges. Today, there are more than two dozen Centurion Lounges around the world.

Grab one of the six cards afforded access if you'd like to experience the AmEx Centurion Lounge. These include well-known options such as the American Express Platinum Card® or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card. Terms apply.
