American Express also offers corporate cards to limited liability partnerships, corporations and LLCs. You'll need at least $4 million in annual revenue and yearly credit card spending equal to 10% or less of your annual revenue to qualify. Other corporate cards may have requirements that are more accessible for interested business owners.
🧾 Important product updates
March 2026: AmEx stopped offering The Plum Card from American Express. We removed references to it from this page. This card had a unique repayment structure, but little else. We did not recommend it.
AmEx also launched the Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card. This card is largely a step up from the issuer's other cash-back options. But its $295 fee is a sky-high leap versus alternatives (terms apply). Read our full review.
A busy month ended with the news that Amazon is moving its business cards from AmEx to U.S. Bank. Mastercard will serve as the new payment network. We previously recommended the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card (but not the Amazon Business American Express Card). The AmEx cards are no longer available to new applicants, so we removed references to them from this page.

Should you get an American Express business credit card?

Many options from American Express earn high marks in our criteria for best business credit cards. While each card is different, American Express cards may be good choices for businesses that:
  • Spend on travel — and like to go in style. In general, American Express’s travel business credit cards offer generous rewards on travel spending, and its co-branded cards with Delta, Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy are good fits if you’re loyal to those brands. But the highlight is The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. That card comes with a hefty annual fee: $895. But with credits toward airline fees and TSA Precheck or Global Entry — and perks like automatic hotel elite status, concierge service and lounge access — frequent travelers can get their money’s worth.
  • Want no annual fee and simple rewards. The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card comes with straightforward 1%-2% cash back. It's one of our picks for the best cash-back business credit cards. If you prefer points, The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express offers 1x-2x of those per dollar spent instead. NerdWallet values AmEx points at between 1 and 1.6 cents each.
  • Will take advantage of a long intro APR period. The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card offers 0% intro APR on Purchases for 12 months, and then the ongoing APR of 16.74%-26.74% Variable APR, and The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express matches it. That's longer than many business credit cards with 0% APR intro periods.
  • Want more purchasing power. Multiple American Express business credit cards have no preset spending limit, including the Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and the American Express® Business Gold Card. The limits on these cards adjust depending on your purchase, payment and credit history, making them a good potential fit if you're looking for a high-limit business credit card.
Want to earn more Membership Rewards points?
The American Express® Business Checking account currently has this welcome bonus for new customers:
Earn 30,000 Membership Rewards® points. Convert Membership Rewards® points into deposits directly into your American Express® Business Checking account. Other redemption options available. Terms apply. For new members: Points you earn, including the Welcome Bonus and from making Business Debit Card purchases, can be converted into deposits made directly into your Business Checking account. Terms apply. For Membership Rewards-enrolled Card holders: You can choose to convert points into deposits directly into your Business Checking account or use them the same way you always have – for travel, gift cards, and more. Terms apply. *Participating partners and available rewards are subject to change without notice. 1) Deposit a total of $5,000 or more in eligible deposits within 30 days of opening your first account, AND ▪ Eligible deposits are any deposits except deposits using our Redeem for Deposits feature, deposits from interest payments, and deposits from any other American Express Business Checking accounts. 2) Maintain an average account balance of $5,000 for the next 60 days, AND 3) Make 5 or more qualifying transactions within 60 days of opening your account ▪ Qualifying transactions are mobile deposits, check deposits by mail, and electronic/online transactions including ACH, Wire, and Bill Payments. Business Debit Card transactions and deposits using our Redeem for Deposits feature are not qualifying transactions. 4) American Express is currently accepting applications from eligible U.S. businesses. Not all applicants will be approved for a Business Checking account. Select industries or businesses engaged in certain activities are currently ineligible, such as money service businesses, cryptocurrency, internet gambling businesses, and marijuana related businesses.
There's also an AmEx business line of credit, making the company a strong choice in general for small-business owners looking to solve multiple financial needs with a single provider. Deposit accounts offered by American Express National Bank. Member FDIC.

Alternatives to American Express business credit cards

An AmEx business credit card might not be the right fit for business owners who:
  • Budget-conscious international travelers. While American Express travel cards don't charge foreign transaction fees, most come with hefty annual fees. The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, for example, carries a $895 annual fee. The Chase Ink Business Preferred is a great alternative, with no foreign transaction fees, a much smaller annual fee ($95) and elevated rewards on travel, among other categories: Earn 5x total points on Lyft rides through 9/30/27. Earn 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories each account anniversary year, Earn 1 point per $1 on all other purchases - with no limit to the amount you can earn.
  • Want no caps on cash back. With The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card, you’ll earn 2% cash back on only your first $50,000 in spending. After that, the rewards rate drops to 1%. The Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card fills this gap with unlimited 2% cash back. But there are better, cheaper options. For instance, the Capital One Spark Cash card — which also pays 2% cash back with no limit. However, its annual fee ($0 intro for the first year, then $95; see ) is far less than the Graphite's $295.
  • Don't have good-to-excellent personal credit. American Express is hardly alone in requiring a good personal credit score. That's the starting point for most business credit cards. However, other big-name issuers offer options for entrepreneurs with thin or poor personal credit. For instance, the Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business is one of a few business credit cards for fair credit (typically a FICO score between 630 and 690). For those with a score below that threshold, a secured business credit card like the Bank of America® Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Mastercard® Secured credit card can help your business establish credit.

Methodology

NerdWallet's writers and editors monitor more than 70 business credit cards to select the best options without outside input from partners or other business interests. We evaluate business cards based on value and simplicity, weighing fees, sign-up bonuses and reward rates, alongside perks like interest-free periods, statement credits and elite status (for travel cards).
We consider more than 20 data points for each card we score, including detailed information about rewards, credits and fees. We gather this information from rates and fees documents, deposit account agreements, financial institution websites and company representatives.
Our editorial team regularly reviews and updates our data to ensure consistency and accuracy. We also update our scoring on an ongoing basis to reflect changing industry norms and business owner needs. For instance, in 2026, we added a small deduction for cards that don’t allow users to issue virtual cards and removed the small increase for cards with no preset spending limit.
Final star ratings range from one to five stars. A five-star score represents the best available product for the largest number of business owners. Learn how NerdWallet rates small-business credit cards.
