Finding the best value hotel rewards program can be overwhelming, but it largely comes down to two key factors:
The ability to earn points through hotel stays and credit card spend.
How much those points are worth.
The NerdWallet travel team crunched the numbers to identify which hotel loyalty program and credit card give you the most back in exchange for spending money with them. These calculations also provided data for determining the most valuable hotel rewards program in 2026.

Which hotel rewards program offers the best value?
Hotel cash and award pricing data was provided by Gondola, a points-focused third-party hotel booking platform. Over 15 million cash and point prices were analyzed across six hotel loyalty programs to determine the value of each hotel brand's rewards points. Then, we calculated the number of points you earn per dollar spent for base-level members of each loyalty program, and the average return on a hotel's co-branded credit card portfolio, based on the earnings rate from each card's elite status.
NerdWallet's ratings are determined by our editorial team. The scoring formula takes into account the type of card being reviewed (such as cash back, travel or balance transfer) and the card's rates, fees, rewards and other features.
Based on our analysis, World of Hyatt is the big winner for both base-member loyalists and World of Hyatt Credit Card holders. Based on our World of Hyatt point valuation of 1.8 cents each, base members will earn 9.1% back for each dollar they spend at the hotel. Even better, cardholders will receive 17.2% back for paying for their Hyatt stay with the World of Hyatt Credit Card.
The top three major hotel rewards program based on how highly they reward both base members and cardholders are:
The hotel loyalty programs with the highest rewards rate also have the most valuable points. Our regularly updated point and mile valuations show how the raw value of these currencies vary. This is just like any currency; $150,000 is very different from £150,000. And earning Hyatt points is far more valuable than earning the same number of Hilton points.
Hotel rewards program
Point value (cent per point)
World of Hyatt
1.8 cents.
Choice Privileges
0.8 cent.
Marriott Bonvoy
0.8 cent.
Wyndham Rewards
0.7 cent.
IHG One Rewards
0.6 cent.
Hilton Honors
0.4 cent.
Just remember, these rewards rates simply give a snapshot of the return each hotel brand gives by way of points earned by spending at the hotel. But for frequent travelers, there may be more to consider, including elite status perks like free breakfast, or the quality, cost and location of the hotels.
And while Hyatt is great for now, we're skeptical as to how long it'll last.
World of Hyatt remains one of the few major hotel loyalty programs that still publishes an award chart, rather than using dynamic pricing. But in February 2026, Hyatt announced a significant update. It will expand its award chart from three (off-peak, standard and peak) to five pricing tiers per category based on demand: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper and Top. The new pricing structure goes into effect for stays in May 2026 or later.
Most award stays, especially at higher-category hotels during busy travel seasons, will require substantially more points.
If you’ve been eyeing an aspirational Hyatt stay, especially in Categories 7 or 8, consider booking before the new pricing kicks in.
What hotel rewards program has the most valuable credit cards?
To determine the return on each hotel's credit card portfolio, we analyzed how many points each card earns per dollar spent at the hotel, based on the elite status tier it provides. Those numbers were then multiplied by the point valuation and averaged to create an average rewards rate across the hotel's card portfolio. Only consumer cards were used in this analysis (business cards were excluded).
🤓Nerdy Tip
If you have a higher-tier elite status than what's provided by the card, your rate of return will also be higher than what's presented here.

Choice Privileges offers two consumer credit cards. While the $0-annual-fee Choice Privileges® Mastercard® offers a decent value, Choice loyalists will find it hard to beat the outsized earnings rate on the Choice Privileges® Select Mastercard®.
Marriott has the largest card portfolio of any major hotel brand, with cards issued by both American Express and Chase. Despite the high annual fee, Marriott loyalists will earn the most points through the Marriott Platinum status offered by the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card.

IHG offers two credit cards issued by Chase. Loyalists with IHG will earn the most points through the Platinum Elite status offered by the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card.
Wyndham offers two cards with similar earnings rates. Because the earning rates are so similar, most people will likely do better with the $0-annual-fee Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card.
Hilton offers a boatload of points for using their cards at Hilton hotels. Unfortunately, those points are worth less than any other major hotel loyalty program.
