Wyndham Status Match: What You Need to Know

Wyndham will status match with most major hotel loyalty programs, but it offers matching at certain times only.

Many travelers understand how hotel elite status can help improve their stay. Potential room upgrades and other welcome amenities can enhance the experience and the bonus points can help elites accrue points faster for future hotel stays. If you don’t already have status with a brand where you have an upcoming trip, it may be worth considering a status match to that hotel’s loyalty program.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts offers an elite status match program that might make sense if you have an upcoming stay at one of its brands. Even general members can match. Here’s what you need to know if you are considering matching an existing elite status to a similar tier in Wyndham Rewards.

Where can you find Wyndham?

More than 8,000 Wyndham Hotels & Resorts properties are available in 95 countries. Wyndham is the world’s largest hotel franchising company, and its brands include:
  • Dolce Hotels and Resorts.
  • Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham.
  • La Quinta by Wyndham.
  • Ramada by Wyndham.
  • Days Inn by Wyndham.
  • Super 8 by Wyndham.
  • Tryp by Wyndham.
  • Wyndham Garden.
  • Wyndham Grand.
Wyndham Rewards offers the ability to earn or redeem points for a stay. Depending on where you stay, the value of a Wyndham Rewards points redemption will vary. NerdWallet values Wyndham points at 0.7 cent each, so you want to aim to get at least that much if you're redeeming points. But having elite status may help elevate the experience.

How Wyndham status matches work

Loyalty programs may allow members to earn elite status in their own program by demonstrating they have similar status in another program. You’ll need to prove that you have that other status for Wyndham to process a match. Check this link to see if there are Wyndham status match offers currently open.
Hotel loyalty programs that participate in Wyndham's status match include:
  • Best Western Rewards.
  • Choice Privileges.
  • Hilton Honors.
  • IHG One Rewards.
  • Marriott Bonvoy.
  • Omni Select Guest.
  • Radisson Rewards.
  • World of Hyatt.
If you have certain levels of elite status (or even just membership in some cases) in any of the above programs, you may be eligible to receive Wyndham status. Wyndham Rewards publishes a chart that explains what status a member would receive depending on the existing status they have with an eligible program. For example, a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite or Hilton Honors Gold member, both mid-range tiers, would match to Wyndham Rewards Diamond status, Wyndham’s highest.
You’ll need to sign into your Wyndham Rewards account to complete the status match request form (or join the program first). It takes five to seven days for verification before you are approved.

How long will Wyndham Rewards status last?

The tier you receive through a Wyndham status match will be effective for only 90 days unless you complete a status match challenge during that time.
As part of the challenge, Gold members must stay one qualifying night during that 90 days, while Platinum members must stay four qualifying nights, and Diamond members must stay 10 qualifying nights.
Once you meet that requirement, your status tier will remain in effect through Dec. 31 of the following year, so if you completed the qualifying nights on June 30, 2026, your status won’t expire until Dec. 31, 2027.
The best benefits are reserved for Platinum and Diamond tiers. Platinum members earn a 15% bonus on points when staying at a Wyndham property plus the option for an early check-in and a preferred room choice. Diamond members get similar benefits, as well as added perks like:
  • A 20% bonus on points earning.
  • A welcome gift at check-in.
  • Suite upgrades at participating hotels.
  • The opportunity to gift Gold to someone else.

How often can you do a Wyndham status match?

A member can apply for a Wyndham status match once per calendar year only.

You may already have hotel elite status and not realize it

Some travel cards come with automatic elite status like the American Express Platinum Card®, which includes Gold Elite status with Marriott and Hilton Honors™ Gold Status as a perk. Enrollment required. Terms apply. This could make it easy to match to Wyndham if that’s where your upcoming stays are.
Those with United MileagePlus elite status at the Premier Gold level or higher are also eligible for a status match with Marriott. United Airlines and Marriott have a partnership that awards reciprocal status in either program. Those with United Premier Gold status or higher receive Marriott Gold Elite status once they link their accounts, which means you can use that to match to Wyndham, too.

What to do if you don’t have hotel elite status elsewhere

There is another path to Wyndham elite status that doesn't involve any status match program. Wyndham Rewards-affiliated credit cards come with elite status, including the no-fee Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card, which comes with Wyndham Rewards Gold status.
The new Wyndham Rewards Earner Premier Card comes with top-tier Diamond status, although it does have a $395 annual fee. But for those who travel frequently, the suite upgrades and welcome amenities can more than make up for that cost.
This could be the fastest path to Diamond status, and it makes a lot of sense if you have a big holiday or trip planned to a Wyndham Rewards-eligible property. Let’s say you are headed to the Dolce by Wyndham Versailles in France. If you want to try your luck at an upgrade and enjoy a welcome amenity, this could be a much cheaper option than paying for a suite outright.
Even better, you could tap into a credit card that has a lower annual fee but still can make a status match to Diamond status. For example, the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card has a $250 annual fee, while the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card has a $125 annual fee. Both of these are cheaper than the Wyndham Rewards Earner® Premier Card’s annual fee but can deliver a fast path to Diamond status via this status match if you are willing to jump through the extra hoops. Terms apply.

A Wyndham status match is easier than you think

While not always available, completing a Wyndham status match may be easier than you think. Of course, be sure the benefits you are looking for are part of the status that you would receive in the match program. Some elite tiers don't include things like suite upgrades or welcome amenities. A status match or applying for the right Wyndham credit card can be an easy (and expedited) way to get more value from your next stay with Wyndham.
