The annual fee on the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card is not exactly cheap at $149 per year, but the benefits it carries may be worth it to you if you fly on Southwest regularly.

Here, we’ll take a look at the three top benefits that come with the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card.

Welcome bonus

The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card has the following welcome bonus: Earn 40,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

Cardholders earn 3 points per $1 spent with Southwest. You’ll also earn 1 point per $1 spent elsewhere.

Earning power

Using the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card to pay for Southwest flights earns 3 points per $1 spent. You can also earn 2x points on Rapid Rewards hotel and car partners, as well as local transit and commuting, including rideshares. This card also earns 2x points on internet, cable, phone services and select streaming services.

In addition to these credit card points, Rapid Rewards frequent flyer members earn 6 points per $1 spent on Wanna Get Away fares, 10 points per $1 on Anytime fares and 12 points per $1 on Business Select fares.

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card benefits

The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card has a $75 annual travel credit that can be used toward Southwest flights. That perk alone is worth half the cost of the annual fee. With this card, you’ll also receive a 20% discount on in-flight purchases, including drinks and Wi-Fi.

But the biggest perk for frequent flyers might be the four upgraded boardings per year. Southwest does not assign seats before boarding unless you pay a fee, so the opportunity to upgrade will get you a chance to choose your seat earlier and get on the plane faster.

Cardholders also get rewarded when their anniversary rolls around, to the tune of 7,500 bonus points. When it comes time to redeem those points, the airline has a no blackout policy: If a fare is available in cash, you can book it with points.

The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card also comes with no foreign transaction fees, which is a great perk when traveling overseas.

For those chasing elite status, this card also allows you the opportunity to earn tier qualifying points toward A-list elite status. For every $10,000 spent on the card, you will earn 1,500 points. There's no limit to the number of tier qualifying points you can earn this way.
