Southwest has launched a new limited-time sign-up bonus for all three of its co-branded consumer credit cards with Chase.
For the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, the new bonus will be as follows: Earn 40,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.
That’s 20,000 points higher than the previous sign-up bonuses for each card, although the spending threshold to earn them is also higher.
Similar limited-time sign-up bonus boosts have become fairly frequent for Southwest credit cards. Earning one of these new ones would get you that much closer to a coveted Southwest Companion Pass.
Such a pass lets you choose a person to fly with you at no charge, except for taxes and fees, which start at $5.60 one-way. You can qualify for a Companion Pass if you earn 110,000 Rapid Rewards points in a calendar year, so these new sign-up bonuses would get you more than halfway there. (The Companion Pass is good for the rest of the year in which you qualified for it, as well as for the following calendar year.)
All three of these cards have the same rewards structure and the same APR, but there are some key differences in terms of annual fees and how many anniversary points you receive each year (the higher the fee, the more of those you get).
Also, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card is the only one of the three that charges a foreign transaction fee (3%). But it also has the lowest annual fee among the three, at $69.
