The costs of being chauffeured by a ridesharing service like Uber or Lyft can add up if you're a frequent customer. And while you don't need a credit card to pay for rideshares, having one that offers incentives for those purchases may help offset some of the costs.
Whether you're team Uber or Lyft, consider these cards to get more value on future rides.
The Uber Credit Card was once an ideal option for Uber loyalists, but the card is no longer available. Barclays announced it was discontinuing the Uber Credit Card starting Aug. 4, 2021. (It has not been open to new applications since early 2020.) Existing cardholders were transferred to a different product in October 2021.
NerdWallet's ratings are determined by our editorial team. The scoring formula takes into account the type of card being reviewed (such as cash back, travel or balance transfer) and the card's rates, fees, rewards and other features.
Rewards: Earn an unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases.
Sign-up bonus:Earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $500 in purchases in the first 3 months.
Annual fee:$0.
APR:0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 18.49%, 24.49%, or 28.49% Variable APR.
Why we like it
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card offers a decent ongoing 2% cash-back rate on all purchases. Earning rewards is as straightforward and simple as it gets. You don't have to keep track of rewards categories or spending caps to earn rewards.
Drawbacks
Unless you are a Wells Fargo customer, you can only redeem cash back for a statement credit or a paper check. Wells Fargo customers have more flexible redemption options that include a direct deposit into an eligible Wells Fargo bank account or a withdrawal from eligible Wells Fargo ATMs.

1% cash back on all purchases made with the physical Apple Card.

Welcome offer:None.
Annual fee:No Fees*.
APR:The ongoing APR is 17.49%-27.74%, Variable.
Why we like it
The Apple Card earns a 3% back when you make purchases with Uber or Uber Eats through Apple Pay. That’s a hearty rate for a card that has a $0 annual fee. You also won’t have to wait to use your rewards. They are credited to your account daily, allowing you to use them faster than other rewards credit cards.
Drawbacks
The card doesn’t reward broader spending categories. To earn the highest rewards rates, you'll be limited to Apple Pay purchases. This can be an issue if some merchants don’t accept the payment method.
Uber's food delivery service, Uber Eats, is separate from the rideshare service that the company provides. If you frequently spend on food delivery services in addition to rideshare services, a card with a 2% rewards rate can prove fruitful over time. Or, if you prefer to maximize rewards, consider getting a credit card for food delivery services and one for rideshare purchases.

Why we like it
The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express earns a generous rewards rate on eligible transit purchases, including rideshare services. Since you’re not limited to just one brand in particular, you’re free to shop for the best deal when you're hailing a ride. You’ll also earn rewards in common everyday spending categories, which can add up easily.
Drawbacks
You'll have to spend enough on groceries to make up the cost of the annual fee (currently $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $95. Terms apply.) For a decent rate minus the annual fee, consider a credit card that offers a 2% rewards rate on all purchases.

2% cash back in one "everyday" category that you choose from a smaller list.

Why we like it
With theU.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card, rewards maximizers can earn a top 5% cash-back rate on ground transportation purchases (including Lyft and Uber rides) when activating that category. Unlike other credit cards that offer 5% cash back on rotating bonus categories, you’re not limited to just one bonus category that earns elevated rewards and a low flat rate on everything else. You'll get more rewards tiers that include two bonus categories, a 2% category and the low flat rate. The rewards categories are also more likely to suit your spending since you choose them from a list of options.
Drawbacks
You’ll have to remember to activate categories quarterly and use your credit card when spending in them to make rewards count.

Annual fee:$325.
APR:See Pay Over Time APR.
Why we like it
The American Express® Gold Card is a solid choice for foodies who frequently use Uber and dine out. As long as you can make full use of the card's benefits, it's possible to offset the $325 annual fee. The card offers up to $120 a year in Uber Cash, distributed as $10 per month when you add the card to your Uber account. Uber Cash can be applied to Uber Eats orders or Uber rides in the U.S. You'll also get a $120 dining credit annually (distributed as up to $10 in statement credits monthly) when you use the card to make purchases with eligible restaurants or services. Enrollment is required. Terms apply. Effective 11/8/2024, an Amex Card must be selected as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction to redeem the Amex Uber Cash benefit. Additionally, from April 30 through Oct. 30, 2026, cardholders will receive a one-time statement credit of up to $96 when they use their card to pay for an annual Uber One membership. Enrollment is required.
Drawbacks
Uber Cash earned won’t roll over to the next month, so you’ll have to use it or lose it. The $325 annual fee also runs high. For a lower annual fee, the American Express® Green Card earns 3 points per dollar spent on eligible travel, dining and transit (including rideshare services). Terms apply.

Why we like it

Among the benefits included is a credit of up to $200 a year for Uber. The credits are issued monthly, providing you with up to $15 each month and $35 in December to use on rides or Uber Eats orders in the U.S. (enrollment required).
