The Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card has trimmed its sign-up bonus by 20,000 points — a loss in value that could equal up to four award nights or so, depending on how you redeem rewards.
The card’s latest sign-up bonus is phrased like this: "Earn 30,000 Bonus Points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening." It’s a significant drop in value from the previous sign-up bonus: Earn 50,000 Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
If you’re looking for a silver lining, consider that you have to spend only half as much now in the same time period to earn a sign-up bonus. And even with a smaller bonus, Marriott enthusiasts can get value with the $0-annual-fee Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card.
The introductory offer still gives new cardholders plenty of booking options between a category 1 and 5 hotel. Hotel redemptions start at 5,000 points per night (4,000 points if your travel dates are flexible and you can find a discounted room through Bonvoy’s PointSavers program).
And cardholders will continue earning rewards and perks for their stays at Marriott Bonvoy hotels. Here's what's staying the same:
Rewards: Earn 3 points per $1 spent at over 7,000 Marriott Bonvoy hotels; 2 points per $1 spent on other travel purchases (from airfare to taxis and trains); and 1 point per $1 everywhere else.
Elite Night credits: Get 15 credits every calendar year and qualify for Silver Elite status. This status packs even more loyalty perks, such as late checkout and additional bonus points.
Foreign transaction fees: None.
