Cons

  • $15 monthly fee.

This national bank is a Florida favorite. J.D. Power ranked Chase No. 1 for customer satisfaction in Florida four times in the past seven years. The most recent award was in 2026. The J.D. Power study measures retail banking satisfaction, but many local business owners recommend Chase on Reddit and other forums. That’s thanks in part to Chase’s extensive branch presence — it has more than 430 brick-and-mortar locations in Florida.
Chase doesn't have a free business checking account, but perks like unlimited electronic transactions and integrated payment processing via the Chase mobile app make up for the monthly fee. (You have multiple ways to get Chase to waive the fee as well.)
A full-service bank, Chase also has a variety of small-business loans, including lines of credit, equipment financing and SBA loans. It has a complete suite of Chase business credit cards too.

Other banks, credit unions that Florida businesses love

I scoured online communities to uncover which banks local business owners recommend. NerdWallet hasn’t rated these banks and credit unions, but they received multiple endorsements from Florida business owners on Facebook, Reddit and other forums.
BayFirst Bank gets praised for “extremely personalized service” and bankers who go out of their way to help business owners. The bank has 11 locations in the Tampa Bay region. Highlights of BayFirst’s free business checking account include:
  • Up to 250 transactions per month.
  • Up to $7,500 in cash deposits per month.
  • Large fee-free ATM network.
  • Accept payments via tap-to-pay, QR code or payment link. No hardware needed.
It’s worth noting that BayFirst no longer offers SBA 7(a) loans. The bank was previously one of the program’s top lenders, approving more than 3,000 SBA 7(a) loans in fiscal year 2024, according to SBA data.
The bulk of these were smaller-dollar Bolt loans offered exclusively by BayFirst Bank. BayFirst closed the Bolt loan program and sold its SBA 7(a) portfolio in September 2025. The bank still offers other SBA 504 loans, USDA loans, business lines of credit and term loans, among other financing options.
Ask for a business bank recommendation in Central or Southwest Florida and someone will likely mention Crews Bank and Trust. They’ll probably even give you the name of their business banker. That’s the type of relationship banking this family-owned bank has built its brand around.
Crews Bank and Trust has 19 branches stretching from Lakeland to Boca Grande, with a new Fort Myers branch set to open in August 2026. Highlights of the bank’s entry-level business checking account include:
  • Low monthly fee ($3) that’s waived if you sign up for online statements.
  • No minimum opening deposit.
  • Up to 300 transactions included each month.
  • Large fee-free ATM network.
  • Accept payments via tap-to-pay, QR code or payment link. No hardware needed.
Space Coast Credit Union has been around since 1951 — longer than most of the national banks on this list have had Florida branches. Today it's Florida's third-largest credit union, with more than 60 locations along Florida's east coast and $9.16 billion in assets. Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in one of 34 eligible Florida counties.
Highlights of SCCU's free business checking account include:
  • No monthly caps on transactions or cash deposits.
  • Free consultations with a dedicated business advisor.
  • Zelle for Business.
Suncoast has been around since 1934, when a group of Hillsborough County teachers pooled their money and started a credit union. Nine decades later, it's Florida's largest credit union, but it still puts members and community first. Take the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation, for example. Every time you swipe your business debit card, Suncoast donates 4 cents to the foundation, which has given more than $61 million to Florida children's programs.
Suncoast also offers microloans ($500 to $50,000) to businesses that otherwise might struggle to get a business loan. To qualify, you need a minimum 570 credit score, one year in business and positive cash flow. By contrast, most business loans require a FICO score of 670 or higher and at least two years in business. Members also get access to free business training and networking events.
Suncoast has more than 80 branch locations across 39 counties in Florida. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school, or worships in that service area. Highlights of Suncoast's Business Smart Checking account include:
  • No monthly fee and no minimum balance.
  • Free overdraft protection.
  • Large fee-free ATM network.

How we chose the best banks for business in Florida

To build this list of best banks for business in Florida, I started with the banks NerdWallet knows best — the 50+ national, regional and online financial institutions our writers and editors evaluated in 2026. I focused on our team's top-rated banks that have a large presence in Florida based on FDIC data.
Presence alone wasn’t enough to make the list. Truist Bank, for example, is dominant in Florida with more than 440 branch locations. But it nickel-and-dimes small-business owners with low limits and high fees. Truist’s entry-level business checking account has the lowest fee-free cash deposit allowance of any bank we evaluated. And you pay $15 per month just to access ACH payments. That’s not the type of account business owners want.
The second part of my process: digging into the Florida banking landscape. I dove into Reddit threads, Facebook groups and community forums to see which banks Florida business owners recommended to other Floridians.
I called out local standouts above. But with nearly 200 banks and credit unions operating in Florida, there are inevitably good options missing. The Florida bank finder captures a wider swath of banks and credit unions.

What’s new with Florida business banks?

Seacoast Bank goes on a buying spree

Seacoast Bank has been busy. The Stuart-based bank completed three acquisitions between 2023 and 2025: Professional Bank in South Florida, Heartland National Bank in Sebring and Citizens First Bank in The Villages. It now has more than 100 branches across the state.
Customer reviews suggest service quality hasn't always kept up with the bank's growth. Frustrations include digital banking glitches, customer service responsiveness and post-acquisition fee increases. If your old bank got absorbed by Seacoast, it's worth double-checking your account terms.

Credit unions are snapping up Florida community banks

Florida has seen more credit union-bank acquisitions than any other state in the last decade. Michigan-based DFCU Financial has completed three Florida deals since 2023, picking up banks in Tampa, Naples, Fort Myers and Central Florida. And MidFlorida Credit Union closed one of the largest CU-bank deals ever in March 2026 with its acquisition of Prime Meridian Bank in Tallahassee.
This trend can be a mixed bag for business owners. Credit unions typically have lower fees than banks and other membership perks. But business lending can contract when a credit union acquires a bank, says Jeff Barrington, managing director at Windsor Drake, an investment bank and mergers-and-acquisitions advisory firm.
“The loan you have tends to survive,” he says. “The loan you need next is where access tightens.”
One reason: Most credit unions cap small-business lending. Their business loan portfolio cannot legally exceed 12.25% of the credit union’s assets. Banks don’t face the same restrictions.

Methodology

NerdWallet’s writers and editors evaluate more than 60 business bank accounts from national, regional and online banks. Collectively, these accounts represent the largest banks by assets and the largest credit unions by membership, along with notable and emerging fintech companies and online banks.
We consider more than 20 data points for each account, including services, fees, features and rewards. We gather this information from rates and fees documents, deposit account agreements, financial institution websites and company representatives.
Our editorial team regularly reviews and updates our data to ensure consistency and accuracy. We also update our scoring on an ongoing basis to reflect changing industry norms and business owner needs. For instance, in 2026, we adjusted our expectations for APYs due to falling interest rates.
Final ratings range from one to five stars. A five-star score represents the best available product for the largest number of business owners. Learn more about how we rate business checking accounts.
