The U.S. Department of Education cited SL Programs Student Loan and Debt Consolidation, accusing it of misusing the department’s trademark and implying it had a formal relationship for student debt relief with the federal government.
Enforcement actions: The January 2016 letter from the Department of Education said the company had misused the department’s official seal. The letter also demanded that SL Programs state on its homepage that it was not affiliated with the Department of Education.
The DOE letter was addressed to the company’s domain registration provider, Perfect Privacy LLC of Atlanta. The government could not find an owner or address for SL Programs, the letter said.
