In October 2017, Student Loan Relief Counselors, or SLRC, was included in a publicized crackdown on student debt relief fraud by the Federal Trade Commission and 12 attorneys general — a joint enforcement effort called “Operation Game of Loans.”

SLRC traces to a company called Student Debt Relief Group, which received an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau in summer 2017. Both companies share identical testimonials on their websites from “Larry” in Florida, “Michelle” in Michigan and “Anthony” in New York.

The company is incorporated under the name The Student Debt Relief Group LLC.

What the company claims to provide: Document preparation services related to student loan consolidation, forgiveness and applying for income-based repayment programs
