Student Loan Solutions LLC agreed to cease operations in Georgia after officials accused the company of breaking state law by charging illegal, excessive fees for document processing and using unfair and deceptive practices.
In October 2017, Student Loan Solutions was included in a publicized crackdown on student debt relief fraud by the Federal Trade Commission and 12 attorneys general — a joint enforcement effort called “Operation Game of Loans.”
Enforcement actions: Under a 2016 agreement with the Georgia attorney general, Student Loan Solutions agreed to stop doing debt adjustment business in Georgia, pay a $5,000 penalty and refund more than $36,000 to customers.
The Texas company agreed to declare on its websites, contracts, advertising and promotional material that, “these services are not available to Georgia residents.”
The company admitted to no wrongdoing under the assurance of voluntary compliance. The settlement left the company free to operate anywhere but Georgia.
