Best Value City Black Friday Deals from 2012

The unique aspect about the best Value City Black Friday deals from 2012 was that the sale didn’t start on or even the day before Black Friday. It started a week early. Black Friday prices were up and available both in the store and online by the time that the 2012 Black Friday ad was leaked.

However early the deals began, buyers still had an incentive to get to the store at 6am Black Friday morning—Value City gave away a free gift to the first 25 attendees at every store. To be eligible for that gift, each customer had to reserve a spot online by filling out a form and then showing up really early Friday.

As for the ad itself, it covered two pages and the second page held only “power buys,” which in fact were only valid from the ad’s release until Monday, November 19th, that year. These included a mix of sofas and multi-pieced furniture sets. Two very reasonably priced sofas were the $269 Dulce Sofa Lounger and the $299 Dazzle Sofa, and both came in a palate of different colors from which to choose.

Three multi-pieced furniture sets also took the spotlight on the ad: the $229 Keystone 5-piece counter (table and 4 chairs) with the option of counter-height or dining-height for the table, the $529 Bally All-Wood 5-Piece Bedroom set (head- and footboards, wooden rails and slats, dresser, and mirror), and $799 Chandler 2-Piece Sectional with a leather look and three accent pillows. The ad didn’t mention how much savings were on these products, but nevertheless, the prices alone reflected that.

There were two deceiving things about the ad if you read the fine print, which was a paragraph long on the back. One, the 10% off discount throughout the store only applied to purchases of $699 or greater but not “power buys,” one-of-a-kind merchandise, delivery, fabric protection or other warranties, etc.

As the second deceiving deal, or dud, the Serta iComfort Super Bonus Offer was less an offer than a decoy from the main purchase. First of all, the iComfort mattress brand does not come cheap. The price is over a $1,000 and the only discounts usable according to the fine print were financing offers and gift cards of up to $200. Second, the bonus items included a free 32” HDTV, a free luxury fleece blanket (but free after a mail-in rebate), and up to $400 off an adjustable bed foundation. However, the fleece blanket and the bed foundation still had to be purchased alongside the mattress. If the reader was hoping for solace in the 36-Month Financing plan next to the iComfort offer, it only applied to mattress purchases of $1999 or greater.

Nevertheless, the “power buys” did have some reasonable prices, so don’t avoid Value City Furniture’s Black Friday sale!
