At NerdWallet, we strive to help you make financial decisions with confidence. To do this, many or all of the products featured here are from our partners. However, this doesn’t influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own.

For many people, banking miles and points in a transferable currency is a way to protect yourself against devaluations from hotel or airline rewards programs. If you have transferable points, then you have more flexibility in where you can use your points. For example, if United’s switch to dynamic award pricing isn’t working in your favor, you could instead transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards® to other Star Alliance partners such as Air Canada, Avianca or Singapore Airlines.

Here are the major transferable points currencies and which airlines they partner with. Which currency you want to use will depend on a variety of factors, including how much of each currency you have available.
