Pros and cons

Pros
  • High rewards rate

  • No annual fee

  • 0% Intro APR for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers, then a 14.99% - 24.99% variable APR

  • No foreign transaction fee

Cons
  • Potentially complicated redemption

The HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card earns 3% back on all purchases in your first year up to $10,000 spent. After that, it earns 1.5% back on everything.

Aside from that first-year promotional rewards rate, the card's distinguishing feature is the 10% anniversary bonus it offers each year. That boosts your overall rewards rate to an effective 3.3% back in the first year (up to the spending cap), and then 1.65% on everything else.

That's better than what you'd earn with even some of the best flat-rate cash-back credit cards available.

Also, the annual fee is $0.

Still, while the card offers multiple redemption options beyond just cash, its strings-attached quirks might give you some pause.
