NerdWallet overview

The BMW i5 is a midsize luxury sedan introduced in 2024 as the first all-electric vehicle in the automaker’s established 5 series line-up. The 2024 i5 has two trim options — the entry-level eDrive40 and the high-performance M60 that speeds to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

EPA estimates place the eDrive40 range at up to 295 miles per charge and the all-wheel-drive M60 xDrive at up to 256 miles. The i5 comes with standard driver-assistance features like blindspot detection and lane departure warning. Optional Highway Assistant enables hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph in certain situations.

This review of the BMW i5 covers key features, available trims and specs, the cost of ownership and how to shop for an EV.
