The IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card has a generous welcome offer: Earn 140,000 Bonus Points + 1 Free Night after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

One strategy for earning it: Charge most of your regular, daily expenses that you can pay off each month on this card. Here’s how to do it.

Dining out

Charge your restaurant purchases on the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card, just make sure to pay off your balance every month — this category earns 5x points, along with gas stations and travel. All other non-IHG purchases earn 3 points per $1.

You can earn even more through IHG Rewards Club Dine & Earn. Depending on your membership level, you can earn up to 8 bonus points on top of points you would receive with the card — which means you could receive up to 13 points per $1 spent at over 10,000 restaurants nationwide.

Driving around

If you commute to and from work every weekday and do lots of errands on the weekends, filling up your gas tank could easily add up. Use the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card at gas stations to receive 5 points per $1 spent. If you spend $50 each time you fill up, that’s 250 points in addition to chipping away at that minimum spend.

Staying a night

If you’re planning a trip in the first three months as a cardholder, search for IHG hotels and packages first. Book through the IHG site and lock in a room at your price point: Stays at any IHG brand — from Holiday Inn to Crowne Plaza and InterContinental resorts — earn points and count toward your minimum spend. Plus, you earn 26 total points per $1 spent on qualifying stays when you book with your IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card. (That includes both points earned from the card and from the hotel stay itself.)

Paying the bills

Reach your minimum spend by paying off everyday purchases such as utility bills, clothing and your Netflix subscription. Picking up the bill at dinner or drinks with friends and having them pay you in cash or via Venmo is another strategy.

With a solid plan, hitting this spending requirement in three months is doable and could even earn you more points along the way.
