Business gas cards let you earn cash back or points at the pump. And some of the best gas cards for business pay as much as 3% cash back or 6X points on purchases at gas stations and EV charging stations.
The best business gas credit cards maximize your total rewards. If you and your team spend a lot on fuel, having a dedicated card with no annual fee and a solid rewards rate at gas stations is a no-brainer. But if you’d rather not manage multiple business credit cards, compare the perks of a gas card to those of a flat-rate cash back option.
Operate a fleet of vehicles? A business fuel card or fleet card might be a better fit. These cards typically offer per-gallon rebates and spending controls that more general business credit cards may lack — like limiting purchases to fuel only. But you may be locked in to a specific network of gas stations.
Note: Some of our selections can be applied for through NerdWallet, and some cannot. Below, you’ll find application links for the credit cards from our partners that are available through NerdWallet, followed by the full list of our picks.

NerdWallet's editorial picks: Best business gas credit cards

Our full list of best gas cards for business includes two standout options for U.S. Bank — the
U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards World Elite
and the
U.S. Bank Business Altitude Connect World Elite Mastercard
— along with the
Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards
,
American Express® Business Gold Card
and
Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
, among other options.
Explore each card below, including details about the cash back or travel rewards offered at gas stations, as well as other perks and benefits. To read our full review of a card, click the star rating.

U.S. Bank Business Altitude™ Connect World Elite Mastercard®

Best for: Best for 4X points on all travel, including gas and EV stations
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The
U.S. Bank Business Altitude™ Connect World Elite Mastercard®
delivers impressive rewards on travel, no matter where you book it. You'll earn 4X points on your first $150,000 in combined annual travel spend each year — plus, 5X points on hotels and rental cars booked directly with U.S. Bank's Rewards Portal. There's also a solid welcome offer and no annual fee for the first year ($
95
after that). Learn more and apply.

Ink Business Cash® Credit Card

Best for: 2% cash back on gas, 5% on bonus categories
NerdWallet star rating:
5
If your business's spending matches the bonus categories on the
Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
, you can rack up some serious cash back. (If not, then look elsewhere.) There's an excellent sign-up bonus for a no-annual-fee cash-back card, plus an introductory APR period for purchases. Learn more and apply.

Capital One Spark Cash Plus

Best for: 2% cash back on all purchases + no preset spending limit
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The
Capital One Spark Cash Plus
is an excellent option for business operators whose expenses don't fall into the bonus categories on other business credit cards. You get a high, flat rewards rate on every purchase, with no limit to how much you can earn. And you can earn a welcome bonus if you hit certain spending requirements. Just make sure that you can pay off your spending in full each month, as this is a charge card that doesn't let you revolve a balance. (See rates and fees.) Learn more and apply.

Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card

Best for: 4X points at U.S. gas stations
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The
Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card
can pay for itself just with the automatic free night's stay every year. Add in the included elite status, generous rewards, a dandy welcome offer and more, and it's hard to go wrong. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.

American Express® Business Gold Card

Best for: Up to 4X points at U.S. gas stations
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The rewards on the
American Express® Business Gold Card
adjust according to your spending. You automatically earn bonus rewards in the two categories where you spend the most each month. That can translate into outstanding rewards, as long as your business spends money in those categories. If it doesn't, the steep annual fee probably isn't worth it. The card has six bonus categories: advertising, gas stations, restaurants, software, transit and cell phone service. Only purchases made in the U.S. qualify for bonus categories. Learn more and apply.

U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards World Elite Mastercard®

Best for: 3% cash back at gas stations + intro APR on purchases, balance transfers
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The
U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards World Elite Mastercard®
is a solid cash-back card for business owners.
Earn 3% cash back on eligible purchases at gas stations, office supply stores, cell phone service providers and restaurants. Earn 1% cash back on all other eligible net purchases
. Plus, the card offers a competitive welcome bonus and
0% intro APR for 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 19.24%-28.24% Variable APR
— all with a $
0
annual fee. Learn more and apply.

IHG® One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card

Best for: 5 points per $1 spent at gas stations
NerdWallet star rating:
5
The
IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
is a must-have if you frequent hotels under the InterContinental Hotel Group umbrella (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton and Intercontinental, to name a few). This card has a killer welcome bonus, a free anniversary night, automatic elite status and a slew of other travel-friendly perks. Learn more and apply.

The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

Best for: 6X points on spending at gas stations
NerdWallet star rating:
4.9
The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card
is an outstanding small-business hotel credit card — though a little unusual. It comes with rich ongoing rewards, automatic elite status with Hilton and 10 free visits to select airport lounges each year (a rare perk for hotel cards). Plus, with 6x points at gas stations, this card doubles as a business gas card. But rather than automatically granting a free night each year, like most hotel cards with annual fees, you have to spend at least $15,000 per calendar year to earn a free weekend night. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.

Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi

Best for: Gas card for wholesale club members - 4% cash back on gas and EV charging
NerdWallet star rating:
4.4
The
Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi
turns everyday spending into rewards you can redeem at Costco (although rewards only arrive once a year). You earn bonus rewards on gas, at restaurants, on travel and at Costco itself. There's no annual fee for the card, but you have to be a Costco member (which does require a fee). Learn more and apply.

Bank of America® Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card

Best for: Up to 3% cash back on gas and at EV charging stations
NerdWallet star rating:
4.1
The
Bank of America® Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card
gives entrepreneurs a little control over their credit card rewards by letting them choose which category earns the highest cash-back rate. Options include gas (EV charging stations qualify as well), office supplies, travel, computer services and more. There are also bonus rewards on dining and no annual fee. Learn more and apply.

How to get a business gas card

Getting a gas card for your business is no different than applying for any other business card. Once you weigh your options and select the card that best fits your business needs, simply apply for the card online. You'll need basic business details, including annual revenue, years in business and number of employees.
Don't sweat it if you don't have big revenue numbers or even a formal business structure. You can still get a business credit card without a business. That makes a business gas card a potential option for Uber or Lyft drivers — or any other gig workers or solopreneurs who are often on the road — to help keep personal and business spending separate.
Approval for most business cards is based largely on your personal credit score. Almost all business gas cards will require the applicant's Social Security number, though many business fleet cards let you apply with just your employer identification number (EIN).

Is a business gas credit card right for you?

If you fuel up often for work, there’s little downside to getting a business gas credit card — especially if it has no annual fee. Using a card with a higher cash-back rate at the pump will probably save you the most money. And if your staffers spend a lot of time driving, you can likely get free employee cards for them to earn rewards on that spending, too
Don’t want to manage multiple business credit cards? Then you’ll need to look at each card’s overall rewards, as well as your company’s spending, to figure out the right fit.
  • If your primary business expense is gas: Rideshare drivers, delivery workers and other business owners who spend almost exclusively on fuel can benefit from a business gas card with a high rewards rate on gas and/or EV charging. Just make sure the rewards are easy to redeem. Some hotel cards offer big-time rewards on gas purchases, but the points you earn are most valuable when redeemed at that hotel chain. Cash-back and general travel cards might pay a lower rate on fuel purchases, but they offer more flexibility when it's time to cash in those rewards.
  • If your books show a wide variety of expenses: A simple cash-back business credit card might be best. You’ll likely get a lower cash-back rate on gas than you would with a dedicated gas card, but you may get a higher rate on all your other spending.
  • If you operate a fleet of vehicles: A dedicated fuel card might make more sense. Fuel cards like Coast, WEX and AtoB offer rebates of 2 to 3 cents per gallon at any gas station (plus the potential for bigger rebates through loyalty programs). Fuel cards also include a host of other fleet-specific features, like automatic fuel accounting and expense tracking and the ability to limit employee card spending by location, time of day or even to fuel only.

Should you get a branded business gas card like Shell or ExxonMobil?

Fleet owners may also want to consider a branded business gas card, like those from Shell and ExxonMobil, for example. These cards may offer greater discounts than non-branded options, but most small-business owners should think twice before picking a fuel card that ties you to a specific gas station.
Branded cards may offer fuel discounts of up to 6 cents per gallon. But that works out to less than 2% savings, assuming gas prices hover around $3.50 per gallon. As gas prices rise, that value dwindles. Plus, you'll need to fill up with at least 10,000 gallons of fuel per month (or more) to earn the top rebate rate.
Considering you can earn those rewards only at that specific gas station chain, you’ll likely get better perks and more flexibility with a general business credit card.
Branded gas cards aren’t always a no-go, though. If your employees are on the road and you want to keep spending in check, a branded gas card may do the trick. These cards can typically be used only at gas stations. And you can control when, where and what the card is used for, an appealing feature for some business owners.
