Best Travel Credit Cards for Business of October 2021

NerdWalletOct 21, 2021

Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This may influence which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

The spending required to keep your small business or side hustle humming can also give you a boost toward your next trip — if you put those expenses on a credit card that offers travel rewards. Although entrepreneurs can use consumer travel cards for business expenses, a small-business credit card may be more lucrative.

When choosing a business travel card, consider how you spend money and what kind of rewards would work best for you. Travel credit cards give you points or miles for your purchases. So-called flat-rate cards give you a fixed number of points or miles for every dollar you spend. Bonus rewards cards give you extra points in specific categories. If a card carries the name of a specific airline or hotel chain — known as a co-branded card — the rewards are typically redeemable only through that brand. By contrast, general-purpose travel cards give you flexible rewards you can redeem for a variety of travel expenses.

Some of our selections for the best travel credit cards for business can be applied for through NerdWallet, and some cannot. Below, you'll find application links for the credit cards from our partners that are available through NerdWallet, followed by the full list of our picks and information about alternatives for business owners with bad credit.

FULL LIST OF EDITORIAL PICKS: BEST TRAVEL CREDIT CARDS FOR BUSINESS

Click the card name to read our review. Before applying, confirm details on the issuer’s website.

Our pick for: Sign-up bonus

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card earns 3 points per dollar on the first $150,000 per account year in combined spending on travel, shipping purchases, internet, cable and phone services, and advertising purchases with social media sites and search engines. All other spending earns 1 point per dollar. Points are worth 1.25 cents apiece when redeemed for travel booked through Chase. The sign-up bonus is one of the best available anywhere: Earn 100k bonus points after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,000 cash back or $1,250 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. Read our review.

Our pick for: Flat-rate travel rewards

The Capital One Spark Miles for Business is the business counterpart to Capital One's super-popular Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. Like that card, it earns 2 miles per dollar spent, and you can redeem miles for credit on your statement against any travel purchase at 1 cent per mile. It starts you off with an excellent bonus offer, too: Earn a one-time bonus of 50,000 miles – equal to $500 in travel – once you spend $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. Read our review.

Our pick for: No annual fee

The Bank of America® Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® credit card delivers solid value for travel-oriented entrepreneurs who don't want to pay an annual fee. You earn 1.5 points per dollar spent anywhere, as well as 3 points per dollar on eligible travel booked through the issuer's Travel Center. Points can be redeemed for any travel expense. The bonus offer for new cardholders is excellent, considering the $0 annual fee: Earn 30,000 bonus points after you make at least $3,000 in net purchases in the first 90 days of your account opening which can be redeemed for a $300 statement credit towards travel or dining-related purchases. Read our review.

Our pick for: Premium travel rewards and perks

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express isn't cheap — that $595 (10/14-1/12/22) annual fee isn't a misprint (see rates and fees). But it's not designed for the budget-oriented traveler. It's a card for entrepreneurs who want luxury and are willing to pay for it. You'll earn 5 points per dollar on flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com and 1 point per dollar on other purchases. There's a handsome welcome offer, too. But the true value of this card lies in its extensive list of perks: airport lounge access, elite status at hotels, hundreds of dollars' worth of travel credits and much more. Terms apply. Read our review.

Our pick for: Intro APR offer

The Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business is the $0-annual-fee version of Capital One's business travel card. It comes with a lower rewards rate: 1.5 miles per dollar spent, with miles redeemable for any travel purchase. The bonus offer is smaller, too: Earn a one-time bonus of 20,000 miles - equal to $200 in travel - once you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. However, you do get an introductory 0% APR period, which is somewhat unusual for a travel card. Read our review.

Our pick for: Airline credit card

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card comes with two benefits that more than make up for its admittedly hefty annual fee. First, it gets you into Delta Sky Clubs, the airline's airport lounges, as well as American Express Centurion Lounges or Escape Lounges when flying Delta. Second, each time you renew, you get a companion certificate, which allows you to bring someone with you for just the cost of taxes and fees when you buy a round-trip domestic ticket for yourself. The certificate is good in any fare class, including first. The card earns 3 miles per dollar spent on Delta purchases and 1 mile per dollar elsewhere. Terms apply (see rates and fees). Read our review.

Our pick for: Hotel credit card

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card gives you a free night every year that could easily cover the cost of the annual fee. You'll earn a lot of points — including bonus rewards in useful categories — and Marriott's wide footprint gives you plenty of places to use them. Cardholders can earn 6x points at hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy™ program; 4x points at U.S. restaurants and U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers, and on U.S. purchases for shipping. All other purchases earn 2x points. Terms apply — see rates and fees. Read our review.
