American Express in 2019 will add business and travel perks to its premium credit card for small businesses,The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. But it will also hike the annual fee for new and existing cardholders.
Upgrades are aimed at helping business owners stay productive on the go, said Courtney Kelso, head of U.S. commercial card products at American Express.
Main upgrades
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express already comes with a plethora of perks. Primary new ones in 2019 are:
Co-working office space: Card members will receive one year of complimentary access to WeWork locations around the world. Platinum Global Access from WeWork provides workspaces and on-site support and amenities, such as Wi-Fi and pantries, at 335 locations in 83 cities and 24 countries. AmEx says the perk is worth $2,700. Card members will get information about the WeWork benefit in February 2019.
$200 Dell credit: Card members will receive up to $200 in statement credits annually for purchases made directly at Dell. Expect to see more information about how to enroll in the new “Shop Dell with Business Platinum” benefit in February 2019.
Increased hotel credit: $100 hotel credit (up from the previous $75) on qualifying charges at properties in The Hotel Collection. The credit can be applied to new reservations made after Jan. 1, 2019, when booked through AmEx Travel.
Terms apply.
Annual fee increase
The annual fee rose to $695, from $450. The fee increase will start on the next renewal date on or after the February 2019 billing cycle, AmEx said.
If your business is able to use the Dell credit every year, for example, that more than makes up for the fee increase.
The upgrade and fee hike arrive on the heels of AmEx revamping its American Express® Business Gold Card.
