If you're a business owner considering the Brex Card, now is the time to pounce.

From Sept. 3 through Sept. 30, 2019, applicants who are approved for the Brex Card through selected websites — including NerdWallet — will be eligible for a sign-up bonus of 30,000 Brex Rewards points, worth about $300, and will have all card fees waived for the life of the account. There's no minimum spending requirement to snag this deal; new cardholders will receive their bonus after their application is accepted.

The Brex Card is unusual among small-business cards because it doesn't require the applicant to personally guarantee debts on the account. Instead, Brex evaluates a business's cash flow, spending patterns and financial backing to determine creditworthiness. That makes it an option for entrepreneurs who may have a thin credit history but ample funding for their business.

Although the Brex Card runs on the Mastercard network, it's a charge card, meaning the balance must be paid in full every 30 days. If you need to occasionally carry a balance, look elsewhere.

Is this a good deal?

The Brex Card doesn't usually offer a sign-up bonus, so the prospect of getting 30,000 points right off the bat sweetens the deal considerably. And if you were planning on getting a bunch of cards for employees, the waived card fees could result in meaningful savings: The Brex Card has an annual fee of $0 for up to five cards, but each additional card after that costs $5 a month.

The Brex Card also comes with deals and discounts at various vendors that startups may find appealing, including Amazon Web Services, WeWork, Google Ads, Salesforce, Twilio, Caviar, Instacart, Zendesk and Snapchat.

If you use the Brex Card as your only company card, you'll earn elevated and unlimited rewards through the issuer's Brex Exclusive program at the following rates:

  • 7 points per dollar spent on rideshares and taxis.

  • 4 points per dollar on travel booked through the Brex portal.

  • 3 points per dollar spent on restaurants.

  • 2 points per dollar on recurring software expenses.

  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases.

If you use other business credit cards, all purchases made on the Brex Card earn 1 point per dollar.
