Citi Private Pass

Aside from rewards and building your FICO score, the best thing about credit cards is the fringe benefits they come with. For example, folks with cards from Citibank have access to a free perk called Citi Private Pass, which provides entrée to entertainment events.

Wondering what Citi Private Pass is all about, and which card you should opt for if you want to take advantage of it? The Nerds have you covered – take a look the details below.

Citi Private Pass: The basics

The purpose of Citi Private Pass is to provide cardholders with access to unique entertainment experiences. People with Citi-branded credit cards are able to hop onto the Private Pass website and buy tickets to concerts, sporting events, dining experiences, comedy shows and more.

Although complimentary events are offered from time to time, you’re typically not getting a discount by using Citi Private Pass. What makes this card benefit special is that customers have the chance to get tickets or VIP packages before the general public snaps them up. There are also often opportunities to snag preferred seating.

Although most Private Pass offerings are music-related, Citi provides customers with access to thousands of events each year. As a result, you’ll likely find something exciting for you and your family to attend at least a couple of times per year.

It’s also worth noting that Private Pass frequently offers events for kids, like youth sports with celebrity athletes. This is the type of VIP experience that could really go far in making your child’s birthday or summer vacation truly memorable, so it’s something to consider.

Is Private Pass a good reason to get a Citi credit card?

Like Citi Price Rewind, Citi Private Pass definitely has value for consumers. This perk is great for people who:

  • Enjoy attending entertainment events outside the home with friends and family,
  • Like the idea of being able to score certain tickets ahead of time, and/or
  • Like the idea of being able to enhance your entertainment experience from time to time with a VIP experience.

However, keep in mind that these entertainment experiences aren’t coming free in most cases. This isn’t the type of benefit many people will be able to enjoy with great regularity without breaking the bank. And also, events are generally held in large cities throughout the country. If you don’t live near one, you might not get much use out of Private Pass.

The upshot to all of this is that, for most people, Private Pass probably shouldn’t be the deciding factor when choosing a credit card. But Citi does offer some really good cards, so if you’re interested in one of them, it’s a good benefit to be aware of.
