About Target

Discount retailer Target sells products including clothing, electronics, groceries and home furnishings and competes with the likes of Amazon and Walmart.

Sales

Target is known for its low everyday prices, but here’s when they offer even better deals:

  • Major holidays. Whether it’s Presidents Day, Memorial Day or Labor Day, you can almost always count on Target to have a sale on major holidays. Some of these sales will begin before the holiday, so check days or even weeks in advance. Also look for sales around shopping holidays, such as back-to-school season.
  • Black Friday. Target is one of the biggest players in the Black Friday game. Around Thanksgiving, expect the store to launch massive discounts on the most popular toys and electronics. You might also find convenient delivery options. For the 2018 holiday season, the retailer announced it would offer free two-day shipping on select items, no minimum purchase or membership necessary.
  • Clearance. All year, Target customers can find savings of up to 60% off of regular prices in the store’s clearance section.

Rewards program

As part of their REDcard program, Target offers shoppers two different types of cards: a Target debit card, which is tied to a shopper’s existing checking account, and a Target credit card.

REDcards provide a variety of benefits for cardholders, including a 5% discount on purchases, free shipping for online orders and 30 extra days for returns. Before getting a retail store credit card, be sure to consider your options.

Target coupons

One way to find Target’s online promo codes and in-store coupons is through the Cartwheel feature in the Target app. Cartwheel allows users to search for and use relevant coupons for the particular items they want to purchase. Shoppers simply ask a cashier to scan the app’s barcode to apply the discounts, ranging from 5% to 30%, depending on the product. This app is available for free from iTunes and Google Play.

For more information about Target coupons, you can visit store’s “help” section online. And you can find a complete roundup of discount offers, including exclusions and promotion ending dates, at the store’s “current promotions” page.

Don’t forget to compare prices for the same item at different retailers. Target’s Price Match Guarantee promises:

By registering for the retailer’s email list, you’ll receive new arrival announcements, exclusive offers and promotions.

“We’ll match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target then find the identical item for less at Target.com, select online competitors, or in Target’s or competitor’s local print ad. Price matches may be requested at time of purchase or within 14 days after purchase.”

By registering for the retailer’s email list, you’ll receive new arrival announcements, exclusive offers and promotions. That way, you’ll never miss a sale.

Shipping and returns

If you’d prefer to shop from home, you’ll get free standard shipping (3-5 business days) on all online orders over $35 and free two-day shipping on eligible items over $35. If you can’t meet the minimum for free shipping or want to get your items sooner, the retailer also offers free same-day store pickup for online orders. Shipt members can get same-day delivery.

And if your Target purchase doesn’t live up to your expectations, returns are quick and simple. According to the store’s return policy, most unopened items in new condition can be returned within 90 days for a refund or exchange.

There are some exceptions. For example, electronics carry a 30-day return period. Online returns can be shipped back for free, or most items can be returned to a store location. Consult the retailer’s return policy on an item before you make a purchase.

Get your Target shopping strategy down

Target is a one-stop shop for practically anything you might need. Before you stock up on supplies from the retailer, keep an eye out for sale events and arm your phone with the Cartwheel app. Don’t forget to price match, and when shopping online, try to reach the $35 minimum for free shipping.
