Chase Announces 5% Bonus Categories for Q2 2022: Amazon, Streaming

Stay-at-home activities continue to reign supreme for many, and for the second quarter of 2022 Chase is featuring bonus categories that will reward you for some online and streaming-related spending.

From April 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022, the Chase Freedom Flex℠ and the Chase Freedom® earn 5% back on up to $1,500 in combined quarterly spending in the following categories:


  • Select streaming services (including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Spotify, YouTube TV, HBO Max, Paramount+, Showtime and more).

Cardholders have to activate bonus categories online by June 14 to be eligible for the elevated rate, which can be earned retroactively.

Bonus categories for Q2 2022 differ from what was offered in the same quarter last year, but “streaming services” was featured by Chase both in the first and third quarter of 2021 and has been offered in years prior. However, this category now includes new services like HBO Max, Apple Apple TV, Paramount+, Peacock and Showtime, which were not previously included.

Although was a featured bonus category in 2020, it remains a relatively rare category for the issuer.

Chase Freedom® and Chase Freedom Flex℠ bonus rewards categories for 2023

Q1 (Jan. 1-March 31)

  • Target.

  • Grocery stores.

  • Fitness clubs and gym memberships.

Q2 (April 1-June 30)


  • Lowe's.

Q3 (July 1-Sept. 30)

TBD (In 2022: Gas stations; car rentals; movie theaters; select live entertainment).

Q4 (Oct. 1-Dec. 31)

TBD (In 2022: PayPal; Walmart).

In addition to rotating bonus categories each quarter, the Chase Freedom® earns 1% back on all purchases.

The Chase Freedom® is closed to new applicants, but holders of the legacy card can still earn 5% on quarterly bonus categories after activation.

The $0-annual-fee Chase Freedom Flex℠ earns the following:

  • 5% on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.

  • 3% back at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services.

  • 3% back at drugstores purchases.

  • 1% back on all other purchases.

The card also comes with the following sign-up bonus: Earn a $200 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
