Whether you’re buying socks, a stereo or a new TV, it can be tough to beat the prices and convenience of Amazon. For Chase Freedom® cardholders, shopping at Amazon through the end of 2015 also means getting up to 10% cash back on purchases from Nov. 23 to Dec. 31.
The Chase Freedom® has a 5% reward category that changes each quarter. Bonus-eligible spending has traditionally varied from grocery stores and movie theaters to restaurants, gas stations and a variety of common retail stores. But as an added holiday incentive, Chase is tacking on an additional 5% to existing bonus cash back for a total of 10% on this quarter’s bonus categories from Nov. 23 to Dec. 31.
Sweetening the deal even further, the quarterly $1,500 cash-back spending limit will reset on Nov. 23, meaning cardholders can earn up to $150 in that period alone. If cardholders max out their spending before Nov. 23 (5% x $1,500 = $75) and during the 10% promotional period (10% x $1,500 = $150), they can earn a total of $225 in cash back in this quarter alone.
In addition to Amazon.com purchases, bonus cash back in the final quarter of 2015 includes Zappos.com, Audible.com and Diapers.com. All purchases outside the bonus category or over the spending limit earn an unlimited 1% cash back.
The Chase Freedom® also comes with a sign-up bonus for new customers: Earn a $150 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening — not that high of a threshold to hit this time of year. The annual fee is $0, so yearly costs won’t subtract from money saved.
Nerd note: The Chase Freedom® requires you to opt in to the bonus categories at Chase’s website. Remember to activate your 5% rewards before shopping. The 10% bonus does not require any additional opting in.
Saving money comes with the added benefit of shopping from your computer rather than in a store. So if you plan on tackling your holiday gift list on Amazon rather than getting tackled at the mall by unruly customers, waiting in line and lugging all of your purchases home, the Chase Freedom® might be worth getting your hands on.
