Mortgage rates didn't move much in the week ending Sept. 5 as markets awaited important economic reports.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.27% APR, unchanged from the previous week's average, according to rates provided to NerdWallet by Zillow. A basis point is one one-hundredth of a percentage point.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.36% APR, down 10 basis points from the previous week's average.
The 5-year adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 7.53% APR, down three basis points from the previous week's average.
This week mortgage rates were stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for important economic news: the August jobs report (due Sept. 6), the consumer price index (due Sept. 11) and the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting (Sept. 18). Uncertainty over the results of each report kept mortgage rates relatively unchanged.
