The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is a simple credit card, and American Express makes it easy for business owners to earn cash back on all their purchases without even thinking about it. Currently, the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card offers this welcome bonus: Earn a $250 statement credit after you make $3,000 in purchases on your Card in your first 3 months. Terms Apply.
The card also earns 2% cash back on all purchases, up to $50,000 per calendar year. Terms apply.
While this is a card that requires little to no effort to earn rewards, there are a few benefits I believe would make this card more useful and attractive to consumers:
Cell phone protection
New cell phones have become quite expensive and can cost customers over $1,000 these days. With high-end devices increasing in price, having cell phone protection would be an outstanding benefit to add to the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card.
This benefit would give business owners peace of mind in the event your phone needed to be repaired or replaced. If you have multiple employees on a company phone plan, this could save small businesses money to use elsewhere. Since devices can be expensive, I’d love to see American Express offer cell phone coverage of $600 or more, similar to the benefits offered on other credit cards.
This benefit would also separate the $0-annual-fee American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card from other business credit cards that offer cell phone protection, like the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card that carries a $95 annual fee.
Save my cash back
Cash back credit cards are great, because cash is king. It allows you the ultimate flexibility, since you can spend it however you want. Whether it is for travel, office supplies or new equipment for your business, the choice is yours.
Currently, the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card automatically applies your cash back credit to your account. Your cash back doesn’t accrue to use at a later date
But sometimes I would prefer to let my cash back pile up and use it when I want, rather than American Express automatically redeeming my rewards. There is a level of satisfaction when you click "redeem" on rewards, and it gives the person that freedom to use the rewards when, and as, they see fit.
3% cash back on mobile payments
The number of people using their mobile wallets (Apple Wallet, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.) has been increasing and is expected to continue growing in 2020.
At the moment, there aren’t many issuers that offer a bonus multiplier for mobile payments. So American Express could differentiate itself and offer an extra percentage point when you use your mobile wallet over the physical card. That boost in earning rate could be a difference maker for a business owner when making a purchase.

Only certain American Express cards offer travel protections, like trip delay coverage or trip cancellation benefits. Offering some form of travel protection could help business owners feel comfortable charging travel expenses like airfare or hotel reservations on their American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card.
Without travel protections, it leaves customers vulnerable to added stress and business costs. Since this card has no annual fee, I don’t expect this benefit to be as good as that on premium credit cards, but some protection is better than no protection.

No foreign transaction fees
While American Express isn’t as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard internationally, there are plenty of countries around the world that accept its cards. But the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card has a foreign transaction fee of 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars. Terms apply. That means it’s not a great option to use outside of the United States.
Removing the foreign transaction fee would make the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card a good option to use when accepted internationally. This would be a significant move for AmEx, though — currently, the only no-annual-fee cards that do not charge foreign transactions fees are all co-branded hotel and airline cards.
The bottom line
The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is a super simple, no frills credit card that earns great rewards. But these are benefits I wish this card would offer, because they would add a lot of value for cardholders. What benefits would you like to see the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card offer?
