If you own a small business and want valuable cash-back rewards for your purchases, you may be interested in the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card. This card features an easy-to-use cash-back rewards program and charges a $0 annual fee. Terms apply.

But it’s not for everyone — some users will get more value out of it than others. Here’s how to know if the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is right for you.

You charge ~$50,000 annually

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card pays a nice 2% cash back on purchases up to $50,000 each year. After that, you’ll earn just 1% cash back with no limit. Cash back is automatically returned to you in the form of a statement credit, which lowers your card balance. Terms apply.

This is helpful if your business spending doesn’t exceed $50,000 in a typical year, but if it does, look instead to a card that doesn’t cap your 2% cash back, like the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer. This card rewards you with 1% cash back on all your purchases and an additional 1% when you pay them off.

Also, Earn a $250 statement credit after you make $3,000 in purchases on your Card in your first 3 months. Terms Apply.

You want a $0 annual fee

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card comes with a $0 annual fee. That means you can keep the card indefinitely without incurring a yearly cost. No-annual-fee cards make it easy to come out ahead, no matter how much you spend. Terms apply.

You want a 0% introductory APR

New cardholders get a 0% intro APR on Purchases for 12 months, and then the ongoing APR of 13.24% - 19.24% Variable APR. That means you can buy what your business needs and not worry about interest for a year. Terms apply.

Nerdy tip: Make sure to pay off the card in full by the end of the intro period to avoid interest charges.

You prefer cash-back rewards

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card pays you cash back, but that means you’re missing out on the benefits American Express is well known for: travel rewards. If you want a card that lets you take full advantage of American Express’ well-known Membership Rewards travel perks, consider The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express. Terms apply.

You value purchase and travel protections

Like most American Express cards, this one comes loaded with useful benefits for travel and purchases. Here’s a brief rundown of some of the most popular benefits for small-business owners:

  • Rental car insurance: You can skip the car rental company’s expensive insurance if you pay with this card. The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card comes with car rental loss and damage insurance. Some restrictions and limitations apply, so make sure to read the terms before renting a car.

  • Extended warranty: Get an extra year on your warranty on eligible purchases with a manufacturer’s warranty of five years or less. Coverage is limited to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account per year.

  • Purchase protection: This benefit protects most new purchases against theft or loss up to $1,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per card annually. If you just got your employee a new phone and they dropped it and cracked the screen on day one, you’ll be glad to have this coverage.

Terms apply.

The bottom line

For cash-back rewards with a $0 annual fee, the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is a good choice for many small businesses. There are cards out there with better rewards, but you may have to pay an annual fee or give up benefits to get them.

If your annual spending doesn’t typically exceed $50,000, you prefer cash back to travel rewards and you aren't ready to pay an annual fee, this card was designed for you.

For those who can handle an annual fee or spend above the $50,000 threshold, consider the American Express® Business Gold Card and its larger earning rate: Earn 4x points on two categories where you spend most each month, up to the first $150,000 in combined spend. Terms apply.
