This offer has expired

The larger bonus on these cards expired on April 5, 2017. With Marriott combining the Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty programs, the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express is no longer available on NerdWallet, and this page is out of date. See our best credit cards page best credit cards page for other options.

The Starwood American Express credit cards did it again.

Both the consumer and business versions of the hotel credit card have juiced up their welcome bonuses, giving new cardholders the chance to earn up to 35,000 Starpoints by hitting spending thresholds. Those 35,000 points are worth $805, according to NerdWallet valuations. The original bonus on both cards topped out at 25,000 Starpoints. The offer comes more than a year after Marriott announced plans to acquire Starwood.

Here are the new offers:

For consumers: Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express

  • Welcome offer: Earn 25,000 bonus Starpoints® after you use your new Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Limited Time Offer- Earn an extra 10,000 bonus Starpoints® after you make an additional $2,000 in purchases within the first 6 months. Offer ends 4/5. Terms Apply.
  • Annual fee: $0 for the first year, then $95.

For small businesses: Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express

  • Welcome offer: Limited Time Offer: Earn up to 35,000 bonus Starpoints® – Offer ends 04/05/2017. As with the consumer card, you would earn the 35,000 points in two stages: 25,000 after you use the card to make $5,000 in purchases within the first three months, and an extra 10,000 after you make an additional $3,000 in purchases within the first six months.
  • Annual fee: $0 for the first year, then $95.

The new promotions match the biggest bonus the issuer has offered on these cards, announced in March of last year.

Both cards get you 2 Starpoints per dollar spent at Starwood properties — in addition to the 2 or 3 points you’ll earn as a Starwood Preferred Guest member — and 2 points per dollar spent at Marriott Rewards hotels. You’ll also get 1 Starpoint per dollar spent on all other purchases. Rewards can be redeemed for stays at Starwood hotels or transferred to several airline partners.
